Well, I didn't know who I woudl support for the US-Italy game when I started watching it (just got to see the second half though). But I have to say, I was pretty impressed with how the US played 9 men to Italy's 10, and I found myself rooting for them. Italy failed to take advantage of their extra man, they could have played much wider. I like to see play with heart and energy. If only that US goal hadn't been called offside. I was yelling at McBride to get back, but he didn't seem to hear me. I think the US deserved to win, and then that would have made group E even more interesting.
That's the best game I've seen so far (wish I'd caught the Ghana-Czech Republic one though.) Certainly better watching than the two England games so far.

I'm not sure that the US deserved to win it, but Italy certainly deserved to lose it. The US stepped up yesterday, Italy stepped back. I wish the Italians would show and play real soccer for 90 minutes. That own goal was well deserved - and taught them nothing. How careless/uncaring can they be? I'm sure their fans aren't that uncaring. They are always my least favourite team to watch.
The two England games and the Japan/Australia game have been the only three AWFUL games so far. At least the Australia game had the last 10 minutes where they scored 3 goals.
It looks like Japan and Croatia are going to draw here. We'll see how the kick outs go.

huh?
Never mind, forgot that it was still the group stages, otherwise it would have gone to penalty kicks as it does in major tournaments if teams draw.
They've drew though. 1 pt each!

Can't see Japan beating Brazil so Croatia v Australia will be the second place decider, if you think Italy v US was brutal wait till you see that one

France looking good! 1 - 0, by Henry, against South Korea after half time.
Should have been 2 - 0 though. The ball was over the line a second time but hard to spot for the reff... None of the French players spot it eather..

Eventually Sweden will work it's way to the top if they can maintain..thier level for the next two years then they will be #1 but if they drop to seventh or something next year then they won't be... It's all about consistency.. that why the czechs weren't #1 after 1998 in nagano.... they won the olympic medal and the next year the world championships... Canada usually finishes in the top 4 now so that consistency gets rewarded.. except for the olympics this year...
But yes Sweden had an Awesome year this year.

The Italians scored twice once in the US net and once in thier own net.... failed to see how it could even be regarded as a great US game... Italy played horribly the ref was a complete joke... had the USA even played a decent game yes they could have won.. but they didn't they were horrible a completely forgettable game.....

Top 16 teams:
in no particular order. Argentina, Brasil, England, Germany, France, Spain , Portugal, Italy and the Netherlands.. these would be your top 9 teams..The are the superpowers in the Sport.. Now other soccer rich countries like Sweden, Poland, Czechs, Scotland, Ireland,Mexico, Switzerland. Theres you top 16 now the bottom two get relegated every year through play downs and championships just like Hockey then every 4 years they have world cup that pits those nations against each other...
You don't like a three-year tournament that culminates in a one-month tournament that brings the entire world together?
You would prefer splitting it into two smaller pools? The powerhouses and the minnows? You wouldn't want to see Ghana play the Czech Republic?
You would prefer it to be like hockey where the big clubs control the players? Where only the weak teams send their players to a two-week tournament? Where the best teams throw their teams together five days previous? A tournament that Canada never cared about until 2002? A tournament we still don't really care about because, hey, we still got the Stanley Cup, and, like, 50% of players in the NHL are Canadian?
You don't like soccer, you don't know soccer. Ask some soccer fans. You would get 4 billion no votes.
You're an idiot.

Wow... guess they changed from 5 to 2 years now.. fuck guess I was wrong... but we'll be back at #1 soon enough.... Apparently olympics and world championships are weighted heavier now... Thats okay now that thier at the top they will falter.. it's pretty lonely up there... ask the russians and team canada....
