I tried doing a site similar to this after the Athens games in 2004 (sportscanada.net), didn't last very... but motivated by the great showing in Torino I decided to try again. I'd like to make it into a result and discussion site for Canadian athletes in all sports, including professional Canadian teams (nhl, mlb, cfl etc.).
Anyways, drop by if your interested: http://sports.urbancanada.com. I'm looking for a news poster or 2. If your interested PM me over there.
Thanks
Ops, url fixed. My mistake.
Doughboy, I remember you posting your sportscanada web site quite a long time ago, and I wondered what had happened to it. Its nice to see it's been revived, albeit under a different domain name.
I was wondering though.. How legal is it to repost full Canadian Press, Globe & Mail, etc articles?
Cheers and good luck with your site.
I ran into the problems Andem is mentioning. Its one of the reasons i told people to not post copy and paste articles on the CKA news. And on of the main reasons why I moved away from that altogether and made the news links system.
I actualy got some emails from some layers at one point from Canadian news sources.
I did look info the cost of legally getting articles from like the CFP, and its expensive! $2000 per topic
I usually use the news from http://www.canadiansport.com or directly from sports teams. I try and write unique articles every now and then, but it's tough enough to stay up to date as it is.
I doubt anyone will come after me any time soon (or before I get a few people writing unique articles), as my site barely gets any traffic.
Do you think this is a little safer?

I'll be using this type of format from now on (for articles I don't write myself). Allthough I don't love the idea of linking to articles like CKA does, just because one day the URL may change and the link will be dead.
That's safe and falls under fair dealing (Canada) or fair use (US).
The sites in the process of being updated (layout mostly), and should be back online later on tonight or sometime tomorrow.
New update --> http://sportsportal.ca/index.php
Still working on gettting everything functioning.
Updated again (though the layout is generally the same - it was a software upgrade).
Event page added where you can keep track of the latest sports events:

Also, looking for ways to get the site more active...
^ All those news posts, medals, events and results yet only 12 members registered (no one is active) .
nice site. keep up the good work.
Thanks.
Right now I'm working on expanding the site and member base... a new design and logo are on the way and as I type I'm working on getting vbulletin forums up. Hopefull that will spark more people to signup and post.
After I get a new design and logo ready the sites content will be undergoing a massive overhaul... some new things you can expect:
- Athlete database
- Live results for events
- A large video gallery, hopefully an expanded photo gallery aswell
- Articles (opinions, event reviews/previews, etc.)
- A daily audio sports recap
...and more.
I'll also be contacting some of the sports governing bodies on a regular basis looking for interviews and what not. Maybe even persuade some athletes to sign up and make some posts when they can about what they are up to...
My sites been up for 2 years now... and I've spend mucho time on it (look at my stats image... holy crap all of that was hand added by myself :O), looking to finally get it looking professional and hopefully get it populated with some members. I don't make any money with it - my reward is members who are active and so far I've had very little of that.
If anyone is interested in helping out just send me a Pm on the sportsportal forums.
Opinions on the new logo?
Working on getting the new site up and running. It's not quite close to being completely done yet, but it's good enough to open the site up.
