Buying a new car

That is a decent 1000 km ride in one day. I never put in any 1000km+ days this year and my annual mileage shows it. I think my longest was about 650. Being a little farther south than you I have the advantage of being able to do the Longview Kananaskis loop in a morning or running over to Radium for lunch.

My average yearly mileage is usually about 120,000 kms per year. I do a lot of +1000 km in a day trips so I sure miss the gas mileage I use to get. I'd add up how much more I'm spending on gas but I think I'm better off not knowing
.The biggest thing for me though is the fact that when I'm up north especially late at night I can go a long ways without ever seeing a gas station. With my old truck I had a sense of security that I wouldn't run out of gas, not so with this one. In fact I've run out of gas twice all ready. Once this puppy hits a quarter tank I pretty much have to make a b-line to the nearest station or I'll be walking.

Ahh, but those miles are from the comfort of a truck cab.
Still when you put in over 100,000 km/yr that means most of your time is spent driving from A to B compared to the time spent in either place. The joys of servicing the patch.I think I remember you bought a new GM awhile back so I am surprised it does not have better fuel economy than the old one. Solution one is to throw a couple of 20 L gerry cans in the back. Solution 2 is to add a slip tank in the box. Solution 3 is to add another 70 to 100 litre tank to the other side of the frame and run the plumbing so you can switch over on the fly. Take your choice, but risking running out of fuel up north in the winter is not a good idea.
