I can see how it can be handy in some parking situations. However I am not going to trust this unti'll they work out all the kinks. On my friends car hes got electric window openers and his right side passenger one doesn't work. Imagine driving home and your door won't open rofl. Yeah, worm out the kinks first.
This is pretty cool and would also prevent those unwanted surprise dents in the parking lot.
Thing is, everyone else would have to have these cars to prevent that - otherwise, someone is just as likely to park beside you and open their door into the side of yours.

You're absolutely right, sometimes you just can't win but it doesn't hurt to look on the bright side!
I can't imagine anything that delicate is going to survive an accident without binding and it might go down without electricity but it won't come back up.
An idea that never got off the ground. I saw this on a car site 2 years ago, somebody had also posted a link that the company went broke right after the first couple of prototypes .
