Wow. General Motors have really lost it now. Times sure have changed.
Well Toyota is quite a leader alright in more ways that you could imagine. Check this site out www.overthehillcarpeople.com, and you will see some amazing figures. For example, by mid February Toyota had already recalled 533,417 cars and trucks that included Tundras,Sequoias, and Camry ![Canada Flag [flag]](./images/smilies/smilie_flag.gif)

They had to recall that many because they are smart enough to use the same components on almost all of their vehicles. They generally have less recalls than the other carmarkers, but when they do, they do have to call alot.
But this is how you run a car company. I hope other car companies can learn from their success.
Hint: Don't pay people who aren't working. Fire them!
So in your book having the most recalls is a sign of success go figure. You don't follow auto production well or know nothing about it , or you'd know that all auto manufacturers use common parts in many of their vehicles. So tell me again where this excellent Toyota quality is. I'll tell you where it is," in your head and you believe that because the TV adds told you that. Buy Canadian dick, or at least North American, I do! ![Canada Flag [flag]](./images/smilies/smilie_flag.gif)
I would take a Toyota over a GM car anyday. (high end sports cars excluded).
Japanese cars are usually made better than American cars. Like Canadaka said " I would take a Toyota over a General Motors car anyday", I would do the same.

Take a close look at GM cars today and you will find that a good deal of the parts on them are out sourced from over seas all ready.......North Americain cars are not that North Americain anymore.

Quite right, American cars are likely made in Mexico, whereas Japanese cars are, increasingly, actually the ones made in North America! =}

The motor and front end in the new Gm I bought before christmas were devloped by opel and saab.
The Ecotec 2.2-liter is a member of GM’s global 4-cylinder engine family developed by an international team which included engineers from Opel's International Technical Development Center in Rüsselsheim, Germany; and Saab in Trollhäten, Sweden. This engine family has flexibility to cover a 1.8 to 2.2-liter displacement range and will power a wide variety of GM vehicles worldwide.
"Cooperation with our colleagues in the global GM alliance gave us access to many synergy effects for the new engine generation which will be installed in numerous cars worldwide," said Walter Schnittger, chief project engineer at Opel. "To satisfy the requirements of the relevant markets and car platforms effectively, we made the basic engine as versatile as possible."
More than 230 engineers and technicians joined forces to develop the Ecotec engine family. For the first time within GM, 100 percent of the engine components were modeled in 3-dimension using GM's state-of-the art computer aided design software.
"This resulted in significant advantages by reducing the number of math models conventionally needed," said Jay Subhedar, assistant chief engineer at GM Powertrain.

Exactly unless you really start digging in to it you will not have any idea where the major parts of an auto were built....just because it was assembeld in a certain country...is the only reason they are called North Americain cars or imports nowdays...If you ask me there is no such thing anymore .
