hello, I just picked up a 04 caravan. I needed it for family... now when i was driving on the 401 the steering wheel started to shake a little and there was a small noise. The noise and shake went away as I slowed down. However this evening i was again on the 401 and the whole van was shaking at 95 to 120, the noise was getting louder and the shaking was getting worse... the sound can be described as sounding like a flat tire. I even stopped to make sure. As i slowed down it went away and everything was normal. When I got home, I touched all 4 tires to see if they were hot... all of them were fine except the passenger rear. The rim was hot. Now after the rambling on, would out of balance tires cause a rim to heat up? or would it be narrowed down to a wheel bearing in the rear? HEEELPPPP. Also, would something like that be covered with the safety that the dealer should have done?

Jack up that wheel. If the wheel bearing is loose or worn, the wheel will clunk or move when you shake it about, expecially in and out from the top.

Could be a lot of things....separated tire, wheel bearing, out of alignment, wheel balance, a multitude of steering or suspension parts could be causing it. Jacking it up and pulling on the top and bottom and then front and back will show if it is mechanical, but only narrow it down to bearings, ball joints, tie rod ends that sort of thing. Considering it only really happens at a certain speed range, I'd be leaning to tires (balance or separated) or alignment. Does it try and pull at all?

swapping the suspect tire with the spare would isolate the tire problem also.
.. that is is Caravans come with spares these days.. :(

Wheelbalance.

no pull, drives great, except the racket and vibration.. should that issue have been caught by the dealer during the safety and certification part? seems like it should to me

Oh, and have your brakes checked. The right rear one is sticky.

I would think it should have been caught, yes.

Maybe your e-brake cable is stuck. Has nothing to do with the imbalance, only with the hot rr rim.

Have it checked where you bought it and tell them your issues. I assume you want to know if it is under warranty. Depends on your dealership. From what I read, the sticky brake should have been noticed, the imbalance not. They don't check for imbalance at a safetycheck

the clunk might be the slamming of the door of your wife who is getting outta the car again because you pissed her off, the pink pink is because you forgot to buckle up and the wherry werry is the roadkill that is still stuck.
Didn't you have that for dinner?

:P

so what is checked during the safety and certification? having a wheel seize is not safe, especially with my kid in teh car. When i took it for a drive, i told them about the noise when i turned right, coming from the rear. the response was "parts might be cold"... I kinda had a weird expression... :? . He was aware i told him of the issue, and now its not even a day old when this happened... not even 20 km.!

Depends in who or where you bought it from. A dealer might do an inspection but Joe the plumber probably won't.

Here's a used car buyers guide for Ontario, but you might be a little late.

The wheel seize is what is checked (like if your brakes are stuck or something). Since yor wheel is still turning, it is not a seize.
A shake (or imbalance) is not unsafe. It might be uncomfy for you, but other people might like the shake.

THere is no way you can fix a car, unseen, over the internet. You have to go back to the dealer, and tell them your issues. They are the ones to solve it.
