It's not bad for looks. Unfortunetly I think Microsoft traded practical usablility for a moderatly pretty system though.

Don't waste any of your money on Vista! It's loaded with DRM. If you don't know what DRM is, then google "DRM and VISTA". You'll be glad to stick with XP.

DRM, though a pain in the ass, wouldn't alone keep me from buying vista. After all, you can legally crack DRM in Canada. That though combined with all the other stupid shit in Vista... (has anyone read the Vista EULA??)

If you want to know more about the Vista DRM and how it isn't limited to just Vista anymore, this is a good article http://polishlinux.org/gnu/drm-vista-and-your-rights/

The more I read about vista the more sceptikal I become.

This is an OS that is worth every penny http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x11e0x ... se-copy-pa

Enjoy and BTW there is no DRM

PluggyRug @ Tue Jan 30, 2007 9:15 am

That DRM is a pain in the butt.

Also it's Virus Infection and Spyware Transmission Archtecture.

Microsoft will let signed apps install spyware and other spurios software.

It needs all the crap hacking out yet. Wait another year.

IT's a nice OS but I would not bother upgrading an XP machine to Vista. XP with SP2 is perfectly serviceable and it is also a known quantity for right now. Just buy a new machine when the time comes.

Yea, pick any one of many linux distros. I run Vector and Sabayon right now (both kick the shit out of Mandrava :P). I would take linux over Windows any day.

Elvis @ Tue Jan 30, 2007 8:39 pm

Nahh I like my mandriva. tomorow I'll try to do a video of it.

kal @ Tue Jan 30, 2007 8:46 pm

I like Sabayon because it uses AXGL and XGL in all it's graphical glory... it's a linux distro with an 8 gig install lol. It's pretty but still a little unstable.

Elvis @ Tue Jan 30, 2007 8:55 pm

Mandriva to use aglx or xgl depending on your hardware and it is stable. Of course you can install it from an ordinary live CD and then install the component that you need after you have install it. So in the end you only get what you need wich leave you with more space on your hdd.

A+

Sounds good. A few people I know use it. Personally I'm more of a purist, slackware kinda guy :P

Elvis @ Tue Jan 30, 2007 9:05 pm

Well i'm not a purist actually I really don't like to fool around for hour to do simple stuff.
A+

kal @ Tue Jan 30, 2007 9:14 pm

Lol, I actually find doing "simple stuff" easier in the command line :P But I also like screwing around and playinh with things, so slackware is great lol

I am very impressed with Vista so far, installed the full version today for the first time. The install is so much better with Vista now.

I also like the newly redesigned Vista website: www.windowsvista.com
you should really go through and check it out yourself, don't listen to all these tin foil linux hippies :P

I know for some of my clients with kids, the parental controls are going to be big. I am going to like Live Meeting and already from a little time I am getting into the sidebar gadgets... maybe I could make a CKA gadget of some sort.. hmm

You can also get it for half price if you buy OEM at NCIX.com
OEM FULL Version Not upgrade of Home Premium for $139
