like diarrhea to solid stool .They are both s*** but Xp runs! HA!
Maybe if Vista wasn't such a piece of crap, people wouldbe willing to change over...
I've read enough to know to stay away from vista, heck I thought I wouldn't have any problems with my 64bit version of XP, but i do....Almost tempted to switch to 32 some times.
Sooo, what exactly is everybodies problem with Vista?
*opens can of worms*
My biggest complaints were the way a lot of folder locations and menus were reloceated and how much of a system hog it is.
You need at least 2Gig of ram for it to function and anything else to function well at the same time.
I agree with Thanos about keeping my ol' Bessie running on XP. Might buy a backup copy before they run out, just in case. That way, if I DO have to buy a new system, I can wipe it and put XP on. Either that or just, "gulp", make the switch to a Mac.
Never thought I would hear myself say that!
I personaly love Vista, it runs awesome for me, you just need a new computer. I have switched all my clients over to Vista and they all lik it better now as well. Even on some of the older machines we installed vista, I just disabled all the fancy interface Aero stuff on the older computers.
Just don't install Vista on an old existing computer if you already have XP, only use Vista on a new modern PC. It runs faster and more stable than XP every did, as long as you have the right hardware, IMO.
I have Quad oOre 4GB ram and Vista runs much better on my hardware than XP did.
I am also a techny so i know what things to disable to make windows faster, I do this with XP as well.
There is a great tool one can use to build there own custom Vista install CD, they can choose to strip out almsot any commnent, even integrate SP1.

I recommend it, I use it on all my installations now.
Vista uses RAM in a different way, it may seem like its always using so much memory, but thats just how it works, it doens't mean that memory isn't availalbe to other appliations when they need it. Also RAM is dirt cheap now, its not really a limiting factor when 2GB of ram is $38.
I like the new interface, I disable msot the aero crpa and WDM.exe, but the general gloss look i like. And file managment and thumbnails, searhcing is WAY better, I can't live without it now. Also I am very used to the new start menu now, I never go drilling through menus now, I almost always use the start search.
I also love how you can change the location of any of the personal folders, for example I change me "Pictures" and "Music" folder to a location on D: drive and my "Favorites" folder to a location on the network.
I also run 64bit Vista which seems to be faster and more stable, I did run XP X64 as well though.
Outside of being somewhat of a hog, and older games not being able to run on this, I've never had any problems as of yet. No crashes, no nothing. I like some of the new little trinkets for Vista too.
That is exactly why I asked... It came with my laptop, and I have NO problems whatsoever...
It is basicly just "getting used to"... I like it though...
I wish I had a copy of windows 3.11 so I could play my old Pirates Gold!
Microsoft offers a free program that you can run any old OS on, I use it for testing. In fact there are rumours that the "Virtual Hard Drive" format VirtualPC uses will be biult into the next version of Windows 7.
