Could you be more specific please, copy the error message and the complete situation in where you tried to install it.

Something like that happened to me once, try going on admin. If that does not work, delete stuff like adaware (it only worked when i unistalled it.. i don't remember why but that was it, then ii reinstalled it after installing MSNM)

Thanks ROCK........this is the message "'Msn messenger setup has failed with error code:'1601'. please go on the msn website and download the software from there.' but i've already done that and that sign just appears again." its driving me bonkers! Ive tried it without adaware etc.........the annoying thing is, I had it once before installed, but my son un-installed it by accident! :?

Try downloading it again. I've had that happen and I just re-downloaded it and it installed fine.

Possible solution
To install MSN Messenger you need to be logged in with an account with administrator rights, if you don't have access to one you can't install MSN Messenger. Also verify that you have the latest stable release of MSN Messenger downloaded from the official website.

Other running processes and programs on your computer might cause you getting this error. Ad-Aware's Ad-Watch is a common source for this problem. To close other programs click with your right mouse button on their icons in the taskbar and select exit or close. When done run setup again and see if it works now.

Another thing you can try is the following. Click Start, then Run. Type: msiexec /unreg and press enter. When this is done repeat it but now fill in msiexec /regserver.

If you have an operation system older then Windows XP you might need to install the latest version of Windows Installer to get it to work. For Windows 95, 98 and ME go here for Windows NT 4.0 or 2000 go here.

The above is from MSN help files.

Also, if you installed the software and it didn't work, unistall it, shutdown and restart your PC and then try reinstalling.
