Firefox 57 was released the other day, dropping the old Gecko for a new Quantum engine. It's GOOD, incredibly fast and a fresh new layout. Uses less memory as well.
Even includes a screenshot tool (look under the three dots)
Try it. You will like it. If you're one of those who stubbornly won't upgrade from Windows 7, it's the one to set as your default browser.
Auto upgrade on PC & Mac, manual install on Linux.
Meh.
I like it on the PCs it's updated on, but certain plugins don't work - like NoScript. That's a bit of a deal breaker for me. I like to know, for example, if CKA is reading my Facebook or Linkdin Profile or not, and NoScript tells me that.
I hate "fresh new layouts".
Must be my age showing.
Looks like Chrome.
All of the folders in my bookmarks disappeared when I updated. The sites are there as I can get to them if I use bookmark "search" but the folder layout is gone.
I have dozens of folders with sites for each.
Anyone have any ideas?
57 has some cross-scripting built in so it meets modern standards, a new NoScript10 for v57 should be out in days (says author on Nov 14)
As for Bookmark folders, if you hit the |||\ they aren't there, but I added the direct bookmark icon (underlined star) to the menu, mine are in there.
"If it’s not broke why would I fix it"
What Henry Ford said to Edsel.
But herbie the buttons all move or get renamed then I can’t find stuff. I can only send so many pictures of what my computer screen is doing now before my son gets testy. Why can’t they just strengthen security and add new features in new buttons and stop rearranging and renaming everything. So far the Lenox machine hasn’t really done anything to drive me to crazy unlike my stupid phone did an update and now something is eating the battery. Other than turning off Bluetooth again nothing that I can see
I know what youte and never fixing mean, like Office moving every damn thing every updae and never fixing the things that pissed you off since 1995..
The Firefox update isn't all that different. Looks nicer, the home button's moved to the left, the other icons are still there, it's way faster and more secure. Like Internet Expolorer being dumped, the main code it ran on was way too dated - way back to the old Netscape...
and you can still press the ALT key and get those old fashioned menus.
As for Chrome, yuk. I only used it to read newspapers and about 6 months ago it started blocking all but the first few pictures on each page. One day I might bother to find out WTF is going on. Plus half the ppl don't know the difference between Chrome and Chromium. If you aren't an ubergeek and have Chromium on your PC, you're infected with malware.
He's got you running Linux? Good!
No you probably won't have to worry. There was an example of what Dr Caleb was talking about that could affect older Firefox by redirecting you to a site and setting your start page to a 'You are infected' fake site. If you ever see that, just go to options and set it back...
