I don't use it at all. If you have a lot of transactions then I can see how it's useful. For the dozen or so transaction that I make, I stick to money orders or Interac transfers. Last thing I need is another account on the Interent!

I use paypal a lot, I use it as much as my TD Account.

I have a full Business account and a Paypal Mastercard. its great. Its like a debitcard from your paypal funds not "credit"

Only thing that sucks is the fees... but for online payments its a must.

Okay.. first off Pay Pal.. was a great idea. Now though since Ebay took over the company. In my opinion Rates have increased.. shittier service. trying to get ahold on anyone at paypal used to be okay.. now it's an F**King joke. everything runs smoothly until that one day something unfortuate happens... then boom the world ceases to exist.. restrictions get placed upon accounts... Almost had one of my business close down because those absolute idiots ( sorry not a PC term)all over an over payment to a lady and a cancelled cheque that was rectified by myself and the lady... a $50,000 dollar a year business.. I had my pay pal frozen for 5 weeks while they dealt with a $20.00 overpayment for a set of ties. I even threatened legal action against them to unfreeze about $5,000-$6,000 dollars that i needed access to because I had to pay my suppliers.. when I finally got my money out.. they took much more than the pre assigned total % and no interest was paid for the 5 weeks my money sat in their bank account on hold.. The thing that pisses me off the most was I never even received an apology, it was my fault that I inconvenienced them.. All I can say is F**K YOU PAY PAL...I'll never deal with them again... just one man's story and one man's opinion.

Just a little anecdote: My ex-gf had all kinds of troubles with paypal (I don't know exactly how it all happened) - in the end everything was resolved to her satisfaction but for a while she was out around 400 bucks or so...

I don't have a paypal account - so far I haven't had any use for one. Maybe I'll get one if I ever want to buy something on e-bay but for the most part I would rather avoid paypal.

the fees piss me off, specialy for small amounts

Like someone sends payment for a domain registration to me. They send me $16 and I get charged $1.01 by paypal so there goes the very small profit margin I put on domains, I make like 25cents. I don't sell domains to make money, but its just an example.

But for accepting online payments there isn't much choice, sure there are tons of paypal like services, but who uses them. The buyer and seller needs an account.

www.certapay.com is good for email money transfers but only if the people involved use one of the big Canadian banks.

I thing that truly pisses me off about Pay pal and Ebay... You sell something on Ebay you get nickled and dimed to death..for selling an item... then Paypal on average ( a company owned by E bay) charges you 8-10% on the total amount. S they get rich soaking you on service charges etc....

My last experience was over a half hour on hold before I got some pencil neck geek that didn't know if his asshole was punched or bored. He kept asking the same dead end verification questions over and over when I told him point blank the issue was fraud. Thankfully after about the third or fourth time he transfered me to a rez desk. Only 2 minutes wait and a rep that had a clue was able to take care of the problem.

To me that sounds like they have a huge customer service problem of not enough or trained front line reps. If you have a problem you have to get over their problem 1st and that shouldn't be a paying customers problem.

usababe @ Thu Mar 30, 2006 9:47 am

no troubles for me.

karra @ Thu Mar 30, 2006 10:03 am

I use it for credit card payments - it's great - but, as said above - the fees suck and there's up to a four day lag before funds arrive in my accounts - other than that I have no complaints with their service - mind you, I only accept payments. . . .

karra.. I run a retail business (plus a hockey store on E bay) plus a few other jobs.. (I work for the canadian government now).. between the paypal delay of 5-7 days on transfer and the 8 day delay on Amex.. why the hell do I sell anything..... Visa/ Mastercard 4 days (sometimes 3) Interac next day....

Amex then came out with a business bank account... If you have an amex bank account the amex transactions will be processed to your bank account in 2 days,,, wow sounds great.. read the fine print... 7 days to transfer funds to your own bank account.... 9 days total...WTF so I get delayed uhm an extra day on getting my money becuase why.... I'll stay with the 8 days thanks a lot...

I have never had a problem, but I agree that the fees have gotten more onerous since Ebay took it over.

I used to love paypal until I got $500 taken from my account by them for and item they said I bid on and I never bid on the item. I showed them proof that i never did, but they never repaid me my money.
