Does anyone know of a plugin for WMP, or another media program which will play video files transparently over the desktop?

What do you mean by "transparently?" You can get WMP plugins at the Microsoft update site.

I mean you can see the video over your desktop, while you work on other things. Kinda like a HUD for your computer....

i dont know of a plugin, but i think i have seen a video player that can to it before.

Also there are programs that add transparency to windows. Like Windowsblinds, ect.

Also if you had an ATI all in wonder video card you can play video as your desktop background

if you get An ati video card, the software that usual comes is the multimedia center.
Includes:
Tv Guide
Tv Player
File player
like 300 codecs

Yea the bold FILE PLAYER you can minimize the player and still stays in taskbar but goes under your desktop icons

Well I know Mr Synt4x won't want to hear this, but there are a couple of guys in Japan that have some app that runs on OS X that allows you to layer multiple video streams in clear windows. The video just hangs there with no frame, nothing, and the alpha value can be changed as well so it can really fade into the background. Very slick. Not available here as of yet from what I know. Just thought I'd share. :)

Well i absolutly love linux. OMFG its like heaven. Almost 100% open source os, and you can pretty much customize anything. Yet anyother thing is, windows is more dominate, linux has a smaller market than even mac.

But for hosting and ect.. .linux is starting to lost the win32 hosting server crap.

Linux is better

I know of this video player that allows you to set transparency:

But that's it. Anyone know of another?

Windows Vista Ultimate also allows you to set a video as a desktop background, it's called DreamScene.

Have you tried this Transparent Desktop Video?
