Hey all,

I am running XP Pro on an AMD Athlon 1.8 processor. The motherboard is a Gigabyte with an onboard VGA output. I have upgraded the video card to a Radeon All In Wonder 7500.

Question:

Can I run two monitors off of this setup? Using the onboard output for one, and the Radeon for the other? The Radeon will not support two monitors itself.

Let me know if you can be of help. Thanks!

what type is the onboard card, if its not ATI, chances are slim
however does your card have a dvi port? you can getan adapter if it does
thats what we did with a fx5700 at work

what do you want dual monitors for? some things wont work with it, others its the cats bag, have duals at work very awsome

I will check on the dvi port, not sure what that is but will check my manual that came with the board. The onboard is a ProSavage KM266 I believe.

I want to use dual monitors for no other reason than I think it would be RAD. hehe.

Thanks for your help, I'll check and get back to you.

That setup should be able too run dual monitors fine. some older ATI cards are picky, but i think that one is fine. Now adays most good 3D Video cards have dual monitor out.

I have been using dual monitor for 5 years. I can't live without it!! so much more space. Put like MSN, winamp, downloads, chat. on the 2nd monitor, and the main app or game in working in on the main monitor. Also for Maya and photoshop the extra space is great.

If you're running win98 or newer you should be able to run two monitors as long as neither of the adapters is ISA. You probably have PCI and AGP, though you didn't say. I could be wrong and they might have to be PCI both though. It won't hurt to try though.

From what I have been told, using the motherboard AGP slot disables the onboard monitor, and the only way to get another monitor out (given that my Radeon only has single out) is to add a PCI card.

I figure I will get a small 32MB PCI card and stick it in, they are only about $55.

Thanks for all your advice. Canadaka - my thoughts EXACTLY on what the second monitor is going to be used for. Can't wait to hit the store tonight and see if I can get this beast up and running.

Take care,
m
