I found out today that my phone is probably being tapped. I can call out but am having difficulty with incoming calls. If I can answer a phone call within a second or two of the phone ringing, I am able to connect with the person on the other line. However, after a few seconds, if I do not answer the phone, the line clicks dead and is followed by white noise. I called the phone company and they think the line has been tapped.

This afternoon, we noticed that calls were coming in and the caller would seem to hang up after a few seconds. If this happened once or twice, this would not raise suspicion. However, when it happens 10-12 times in short succession, something is going on.

I had a friend over tonight who is an IT professional. He said a friend of his in Atlanta had the same thing happen to him on Friday. It also happened at his work. He believes that it may be the work of hackers trying to tap his computer.

I do not know what is happening exactly, and am having a repairman come out to check everything on Sunday or Monday, but I wanted to give everyone a head's up and be aware of what is going on.

You wouldn't happen to have V-Tech phones would you?

Time to get out the skate laces and aluminium pie plates again.

Had a similar event at my place in Windsor a couple months ago, trouble making and receiving calls, and would often pick up to be listening in on a conversation in one of the Slavic languages.

Toro @ Sat Feb 28, 2009 9:12 pm

Landline.

No problem making calls. All sorts of problems taking calls.

I had another woman tell me the same thing was happening to her. On her caller ID display, she said there was a random display of numbers. My friend's friend had a random series of numbers but I don't think they were all ones and zeros. I had no numbers.

Maybe its a glitch in the phone company software that is doing all this, I don't know.

There's a website from Alberta called hack canada and it's run by phreakers or phone hackers. These guys love phones for some reason but theres lots of good info on there if your curious.
It might give you an idea on what to look for if someones tapped your phone box outside.

Thanks Ziggy

FYI this is what my IT friend wrote

Friend of mine had his phone "attacked" via a Skype number such that he couldn't make or receive calls, while at the same time hackers were trying to wire money out of his bank account, using account info gleaned from his compromised home computer.

It is possible they are tapping you. The question is would they have any reason to? Maybe it is just random. If other people in your area have the same problem then it is most likely the phone company have issues. Things like this do happen as the the photo companies add/change new tech. If it still happens in a few days then I would be considered.

Say I have V-Tech phones... what about them?

coaster_dot @ Sun Mar 01, 2009 10:47 am

I don't think your being tapped. Unless you are talking suspiciously they would have no reason to. And if it is happening more then once, its probaly just a error or glitch.

I wouldn't recommend doing this buy you could be like "bomb, cocaine, counterfeit money, weed, smuggling, assassinate, ect" and see if a bunch of black vans show up at your house
