I have a problem with XP. I was watching a movie in Media Player and talking to people on MSN, when the movie froze, but the sound kept going. I tried Alt Ctrl Delete, but it did nothing, along with my mouse, so I pressed the reset button. I logged back on, but low and behold all my settings were gone, along with my favorites and my e-mail account. I tried restoring the computer back to yesterday, but that messed up the rest of my families acocunts also. Any ideas other then a hammer?

I'm there they just didn't just disapear, all that stuff you talk is kept in C:\Documents and Settings then in a folder under whatever your uname is called. Check in there too see if stuff is there.

yea man i have to agree windows xp sucks but in my times of having xp crash and reboot on me many times
INCLUDING having my secondary slave drive destroyed, it still kept all my data alive...
it is weird indeed....
windows 2000 pro is good
LINUX ALL THE WAY

never had a prob w/it.. do the updates.. media player updates.. you didnt lose your stuff because of XP.. it'll be in your comp.

I have often closed Media Player and had the music still playing. I tried everything Capt_spaghetti tried, but I did not restore. Usually, once the song is over it stops. I haven't figured it out yet. I gotta agree though, XP is frustrating.

Well I have to disagree with the majority of you and say that XP is definitely the best OS yet! Millenium sucked big time. The next one out called "Longhorn" should be a good one. I still have WIN98 on my old MMX233 and it works fabulously. I find that XP runs very smooth and has a lot of features that make computing a lot easier!! Just my opinion.

fatbasturd @ Sat May 31, 2003 8:15 pm

XP is the way to go...but longhorn now thats going to be another whole story new file system coming with it, the fatmans vote is still out on that and alot of tech programing in it that the average user not will only never use but even if they wanted to they will have no idea....every thing iv'e heard about it and seen about it points to the fact that it will be over complicated for most...ps hope im wrong I would love a new os to fubar.....pasit03 fat

I had a few problems with XP, in fact i have seen weird problems with all windows versions... I like linux better, gentoo linux that is, but i run win 2k pro cause it's the one i like best. I tried xp on my comp but in addition to the frequent crashes, i really hated the configuration interfaces (i know you can change them but it still feels weird...). Anyways, just giving my opinion on the xp system, i know it works well for some, but i don't like it...

We all know what Ex is, and most of know what pee is. XP is what is peed when one drinks Ex. It ain't any heck of an operating system. Go back to '98.

pffffffffffffft! Windows n00b

musicman @ Sat Oct 25, 2003 11:12 pm

I run XP Pro sp1 on all 3 of my computers.

1 is the kids PC
1 is a DJ PC (in and out of van and takin apart all the time)
1 is main PC, On 24/7 running a ftp server with over 200gigs and always having someone d/l or me d/l something

I love XP. Never crashes. I can leave the main one running for over 3 -4 weeks without a restart.

As long as you do the updates and do maintenance on the drives (defrag etc....) XP is the most stable OS i have ever used.

Just my 2 cents for what it's worth

I am with musicman on this one. No problems with XP and I find it superior to all previous windows versions when you talk about stability. The one thing I don't like is that Windows is becoming more and more cryptic when it comes to changing settings. Some of the paths to get where you want to change something are unbelievably tortuous.
