I HAVE A SLOW ASSED ibm WITH xp hOME

xerxes @ Sun Jan 09, 2005 7:49 pm

I have a an almost 6 year old HP with:

Windows 98 SE
600 Mhz
128 MB
30 Gb
A Guillemot Maxi Gamer Cougar video car w/ 32 mb of ram (but it's a pice of shit)
the stock speakers
and a host of annoying problems which i can't fix.

For instance (I realize this is the wrong thread for this), I can no longer defrag my HD. It restarts every 5 seconds. Also half the time when I close IE my computer stops for 30 seconds. It will do absolutely nothing.

By the way DMP, that is a sweet case.

i still have a Pentium 2 350MHz with a 4Gb HDD, with 192 megs of ram, kicking around, my mom uses it for her email...

i still have a 800MHz duron, with 384 megs of ram, 70 gigs of hard driv space between 2 drives, a ati all in wonder 7500 card with 64 megs of ram....it sounds like shit, but will play game out there

but i have got a 12 inch powerbook yesterday, with a superdrive, which for some odd reason, has 512 megs of ram, even though it's only supposed to come with 256megs

Firstly, thanks! By the sounds of your defrag problem, are you on high speed internet (cable, DSL, etc)? If so, try unplugging the internet from your computer. Also if you are attached to a router, when a signal comes in it seems to stop the defrag process. I used to have the same problem until I found this little trick.

norad @ Tue Jan 11, 2005 5:06 am

I forget what the motherboard is; Gigabyte I think...

Pentium 4 3 Ghz processor (800 mhz fsb)

1 Gb of crucial dual channel ram (runs @ 533 mhz)

Audigy 2 gamer sound card with Creative Labs sound system (total output 200 watts)

Samsung 19" CRT monitor

ATI X800 XT pci Express 256 mb video card

80 gb Western Digital hard drive

DVD player

CD burner/player

450 watt power supply

OS - XP professional

Nice case, DMP! I'm looking at something like that for a future purchase. *LATE EDIT* Although I may not; mine is a tooless case anyway and it's in the bedroom. I thought about it, and the lights would drive me up the damn wall!
