Why a newspaper delivery man?

acidcomplex @ Thu Jan 22, 2009 10:08 am

"The three officers are from the West Vancouver, New Westminster and Delta police departments. Their names and ages are not being released."

What a bunch of horse shit, anyone else and the names would already be released.

"As soon as we can gather more information, a determination will be made as far as whether he is suspended immediately or whether he's reassigned to administrative duties until we can gather further information."

Are you kidding me? Im sure if i walked into my boss and said "oh yeah i got charged with assualt and robbery" the would say "Oh ok well keep working untill we figure it out"

Goddamn cops

Would it have made more sense if it was Tim Horton's clerk?

Ya, I'm perplexed about this also. Seems like we need some kind of civilian oversight.

I guess if you want to tell your boss you’ve been charged with these crimes before you actually were, well that’s up to you.

Nobody’s name is released until they’ve been charged.

Thats kind of how it work with the military as well, but with us it relies more on how well the Commanding Officer knows you.

Why do we need to know their names and ages? If they are found guilty it will all come out anyway.

We must be missing one heck of a lot of relevant info. It does not make sense that 3 cops from 3 different areas would get together for of all things to assault and rob a newspaper delivery man? Were they drunk, on drugs, whacko?

ridenrain @ Thu Jan 22, 2009 1:23 pm

I'm guessing they just came out of a bar and he was the unluckey guy they dumped on.

I wonder if the arresting officers responding to the scene got to taze them a few dozen times.

You bet you are, missing info that is - but, I suspect your questions are the facts - this is disgusting! I say.

As AC stated - if it had been anyone other than flatfeet, then the names would have been splashed across the media - so, this poor paper delivery guy gets thumped by three mutts with badges and probably firearms too regardless of local rules & regs.

If they were in fact arrested, then a Record of Arrest must be produced for each of them - naturally, this document also has space for what charges have been laid - in this instance, for some reason(s), none - although, if they have been charged with Breach of the Peace, an RoA is not required.

Without a doubt, this newspaper guy should be seeking his own legal advice, not just criminal, but civil too.

You go newspaper guy!!!!

Most of you seem to be 'a little quick to condemn'!

"They were released Wednesday night without charges being laid".

This statement says that no one yet has enough information to form an 'educated opinion! The general opinion around here right now is " Facts be damned, let's have a hangin"!

This situation could be the result of something as mundane as the delivery guy making a right-hand turn into a crosswalk and almost running over the three officers, resulting in a physical altercation, minor in nature, ( an ambulance was called but no one was taken to hospital), and one or all of the cops might have 'grabbed a newspaper', hence the 'robbery' charge.

I just think it's a little too early for rounding up a posse!

Let me assure you - if they had not been cops - or for instance, if it was you and I pounding this poor sap - we would have been charged and maybe held for a bail hearing.

And, our names would be spread across the media.

This is not about cop-hating or baiting - it's about double-standards.

Again using my scenario, or similar. It might well only have been a 'pushing and shoving situation, ( assault by all), no one wanted to press charges, so accordingly, the attending Cops really had no basis to lay charges at that point. There is still the 'robbery allegations', to deal with and I am sure that under the watchful eye of the public due to recent behaviour of some officers, if in fact there is basis for charges, they will be laid. ALL the facts have to come out and just as easily it could be determined that there is no basis for further charges.
