I wonder how many innocent people have been setup in a similar fashion....

What do the cops mean there's no evidence either way? They falsely reported a rape to get out of a 13 dollar fare! What kind of stupid shit is that?

But it's okay to falsely accuse a man of a sex crime in Canada.

I honestly can't remember the last time a women was ever found guilty of making a false statement, or even being charged!
It's good that at least some of their faces are out in public now - curious to know if any guy would want to go out with someone they know doesn't mind tossing around accusations of sexual abuse to get their way. I hope he sues them for everything they've got.
(there's a thread about this already)

As a former cabbie, I hope he breaks them financially and embarasses and humiliates them!
I can only imagine how many blacks in the US in the past were falsely accused of rape and lynched (pre 50s) and locked up (post 50s).

Camille Paglia wrote a very interesting book on false accusations vis-a-vis sexual assault. The book's called Tramps and Vamps. Among others, she specifically cites Mike Tyson's Indiana conviction as a false report and wrongful conviction. It's a very surprising work for a feminist author, and it's well worth the read.
I hope he cleans them out, they should be made an example of.
This kind of thing is very common and the girls should have been charged with 'public mischief'.
It's a pretty blatant one with good supporting video evidence. The cops investigating this need a good kick up the arse and the girls should be facing charges, never mind civil court. This doesn't make Edmonton Police look good.
Good for the cabbie though, without the video he probably would have got arrested.

Well, it's 'Obstructing Justice', not Mischief. The offense of 'mischief' is for property damage. Are "cabbie-cams" admissible in court?

Mischief? Hardly...it's more like slander and defamation of character.... Mischief is when you ring someone's door bell then run like hell....

Wrong again. Public mischief mate. Read the criminal code and put the doob down.
$1:
Public mischief
140. (1) Every one commits public mischief who, with intent to mislead, causes a peace officer to enter on or continue an investigation by
(a) making a false statement that accuses some other person of having committed an offence;
(b) doing anything intended to cause some other person to be suspected of having committed an offence that the other person has not committed, or to divert suspicion from himself;
(c) reporting that an offence has been committed when it has not been committed; or
(d) reporting or in any other way making it known or causing it to be made known that he or some other person has died when he or that other person has not died.
Punishment
(2) Every one who commits public mischief
(a) is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding five years; or
(b) is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction.
R.S., 1985, c. C-46, s. 140; R.S., 1985, c. 27 (1st Supp.), s. 19.
Do please do a modicum of research prior to posting.
So if you claim someone is a rapist it's not slander? I don't think so....!!!!!

See above post. There are no such criminal offences as 'slander' and 'defamation of character'. And 'mischief' as a criminal offence isn't as you described either. Come on guys, check your facts before posting.

Slander is a civil offence and not codified and very hard to prove.
