5yr old gets rifle as gift, shoots 2 yr old sister

But they need to keep their gun loaded in case creeping sharia law or a women's clinic ever comes to Cumberland County, Kentucky!

BeaverFever BeaverFever:
Another great tale from the American heartland...
The Cricket is the typical rifle for Boy Scouts who are 12 and older. Giving this to a five-year old is criminal negligence and the parent is rightfully in deep poop for doing so.

They make guns for kids !
Pretty common in your neighborhood where little kids are frequently given fully automatic weapons.

That kid in the front has horrible trigger discipline.

That kid in the front has horrible trigger discipline.
The kid next to him realizes it too. That look on his face is not a happy one.
Seriously though, this is a tragedy, the parents are fucking stupid, and don't think shitastic parents are a uniquely American phenomenon.
Let's try to not politicize a tragedy...okay, a bit late, but still.
Thanos @ Wed May 01, 2013 3:12 pm
When tragedies result directly from political shenanigans and pay-offs as much as they do from negligent parenting why shouldn't politics be discussed when these things happen? You can't buy beer until you're 18-to-21 but it's legally OK for some dimbulb to give a firearm to a toddler?
DanSC @ Wed May 01, 2013 3:18 pm
I view the incident with the 5 year old in the same way I view Dr. Kermit Gosnell's medical practice; a tragic anomaly that people use to criticize unrelated issues.
Thanos @ Wed May 01, 2013 3:19 pm
If you're saying that both Gosnell and kids accidentally shooting each other result partially from a lack of sensible regulations then I'd agree with you on that.
DanSC @ Wed May 01, 2013 3:23 pm
Except these many many threads don't focus on simple regulations, they focus on the "evil" culture; be it Redneck Gun Culture or the Murderous Abortion Culture.

You mean the sensible regulations that were not enforced by the Pennsylvania Department of Health? It's a bit pointless having sensible regulations if the government agency that is supposed to enforce them doesn't for almost two decades.
In this case, it's a horrible tragedy that probably did break a regulation or law, or two, and the parents will be deemed responsible, on top of the loss of their child. If there weren't sensible regulations, then by all means let's create some.

Sad when the corner seems to back up the parents by calling it an accident, essentially saying there was nothing wrong with giving killing tools to kids to store in the corner of their bedroom.

Another senseless tragedy. Horrible. F*cking horrible.

"Just one of those crazy accidents," White said.
Yeah... crazy... that's the word I was looking for.

Go head, just keep on down-playing these things. Sooner or later everyone will just accept these incidents as "one of those days". God help us all.
Could say so much more but what's the point? This general topic has been beaten to death enough times around here. The solutions are obvious but do not seem to make any difference.
Yet another thread that will turn into a shit fest by page 3.
Exactly. Time to revive the NASCAR thread....

Speaking of redneck culture...

No, it's not and the parent can expect to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law for such homicidal negligence.
Bart, a few honest questions, do they have regulations regarding ages in all the states? And are safe storage regualtions a thing there as well?
Also, since it's pretty obvious that you have no problem with that kind of firearm regulation where do you draw the line on regulating guns? Would you be ok with something like the Canadian system where you have to take a course and demonstrate that you know how to safely handle and store a firearm before being allowed to buy guns or ammo?
