Did I indicate anywhere in my post what I thought of Ahmadinejad? I don't believe he's psychotic. That's the first rule of foreign policy propaganda--convince the sheep that the the leader of teh enemy is insane. Remember "So-damn Insane"? I'm sure you used the term frequently.
This is useful because, when people believe it, they no longer try to rationalize his actions. They just say "That guy's a loon." It persuades people not to think too hard about why the enemy is doing what he is doing. ANd persuading people not to think is what propaganada is all about.
Either Ahmadinejad is telling the truth, or he is lying. If he is lying, there is a perfectly rational explanation for that too. He would be foolish to announce to the world that he is on the brink of nuclear capability. If you can reach the plateau of nuclear capability it offers several advantages (look at Pakistan and North Korea).
Also factored into the equation, one must remember that the people of the world were misled on weapons of mass destrcution and Al Qeada connections when the US and Britain wanted to conquer Iraq. The propaganda in the US is that everybody believed that they had WMD, but the reality is that there were many influenital and knowledgeable people questioning this (Blix, Ritter, Wilson, etc). So I must consider that the elites may be lying.
Iran has a long and complex history and tangled relationship with western powers. Their current activities make sense to me within the conext of that history, and I don't have to resort to the spoon-fed line that he's insane to understand their current course of action.

In the case of Iran it doesn't really matter as the IDF will be turning their nuclear program into glass ruins soon. They take his earlier comments real seriously. They don't think he is well balanced either.

Zip, I understand where your coming from, and I absolutely agree that they are lying to us on some extent. But when it comes to Iran and the rather obvious contradiction, pure hypocrisy and extreme brutality from this regime, it's hard not to just want to have someone bitch slap this a-hole.

Ahmadinejad isn't crazy. As I said on the thread about his recent interview with Amanpour, he's an outright liar. But he's perfectly lucid. He's playing playing the rattlesnake game. Rattlesnakes don't rattle when they're hunting. They don't rattle when they're attacking prey. They rattle when they want to keep larger predators away. It's carefully crafted politics for Iran to play the "loose cannon" and to "rattle" its tail at the USA.

I agree. But then I would have said the same about the Bush administration.
I have beers with an Iranian neighbour now and then. He says that Ahmadinejad is actually perceived much the way George Bush was in the US--an unpopular conservative hard-liner.

A friend of other nations? Is that why the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is giving permission for the Israeli Air Force to fly over their terrorory to neutralize/fry the Iranian Nuclear facilities?

I don't believe I referred to Iran as "a friend of other nations." Why do you seem so intent on mischaractierzing my position?
Israel will do what it deems necessary. Thay are most affected by a nuclear-armed Iran--if indeed that is what they are doing. Israel's situation is much more stark than the US.
Saudi Arabia stands to gain by securing a sweet arms deal with the US by cooperating and raising their own regional military capability. It's a similar situation to when the US backed Iraq in the Iran/Iraq regional conflict. Might even work.

Right. And Ahmadinejad would have to be crazy not to try to get the bomb with Bush declaring Iran part of the Axis of evil (look what happened to Iraq) and with Israel having them. Look how chickenshit the US is with Korea - any country that doesn't feel safe would be nuts not to go for the bomb. Probably the best thing is if they all have them, since it's impossible to prevent proliferation anyway.
The fact Pakistan has the bomb is what should really worry people, but then they're our allies.

The "Iran the Friend of other nations" comment was made by Amadinejad, not by you. He is a friend to such countries as North Korea and Zimbabwe, not what one would call bastions of democracy.
The Iranian people deserve a lot better than what they have now.
