Yet another one on this infamous bridge. How many people must succumb before the government does something? I only missed this accident by about half an hour but another co-worker metioned he was only about 6 cars behind the accident. I wont get into gory details but the description he gave was morbid at best.

What should the government do in this case? According to the article it sounds like it was a case of bad driving.

Novelty helmet = BC Beany.
Proof of the old Bell slogan "if ya got a $2 head..."

That bridge does suck but it sounds like Darwin and his drinking buddies went for a ride last night.

Driving to fast is one problem. The other imho is that the wheel base of most cars etc. are too wide for the narrow lanes on this bridge.

Trucks are another story..watched one trucker with a wider load, and he just took up two lanes.
He could of drove in one lane, but liitle room for error.he did the right thing, and made sure nobody would take a chance

What they should do is make it into a three laner- 2 lanes northbound in the morning, south in the afternoon. It's worked on the Lions Gate for how many years?

What's also needed is another bridge across the Fraser. No matter what time of the day it seems, that when you get around 200th St. (going west) it's permanent rush hour.

first of all the lions gate bridge has narrower lanes than the pattullo... the only difference is the long left curve headed south... not much they can do except pull all large vehicles off the bridge.. no buses, no trucks just a vehicular bridge any vehicles larger than cube vans not permitted.. have to use alex fraser port man or perhaps a trucks/ busses only bridge built elsewhere....

Either that or put in a center divider and make the bridge one lane coming from New West , 2 lanes from Surrey...

Yeah it does sound as though this one is the biker's own fault for sure. Shame that he died, but while the government cannot be held "responsible" for each individudal occurrance, perhaps they need to be thinking about "20 fatalities in 16 years" and look at what preventative measures might be taken.

$20k bike and a $1 helmet.
I'd like to see BC join the rest of Canada by addopting the CSA/DOT standard.
Novelty helmet:

Exactly. I was not saying it was the governments fault for his death but this bridge is a death trap either way. As far I know the driver bailed just a the south end of the bridge where it starts to curve to the left......this is EXACTLY where the majority of the accidents on this bridge occur. The design was great for 1937 Surrey and New West when but cmon.....it is seriously flawed for the amount of traffic for a city of over 2 million now.

What I don't get is how it CLOSES the entire bridge!?

Come on... just move the bike and scrape him off to the side of the road!!! 8O

Seriously... it does sound like he was riding like an ass... and it is assume that he died. A couple of really good broken bones could have been enough to wake him up and realize his dumb move... but know it's too late! Oh... and if you ride w/o a helmet your a f*cking dumb ass!!! :(

Where I live it's kind of funny (not) to see bad intersections that have accidents all the time and traffic lights never get added it seems until there are at least 3 fatal accidents or more... WTF!?

basically he rothesbergered himself on a bridge.. only difference is Big Ben's thick cranium and quick care by paramedics saved his life....F**K you ride a bike you wear a helmet... what is so hard to understand....

There is a small segment of the motorcycle population who say that the weight of the helmet is a danger and contributes to neck injury.
They also say that the helmet restricts vision and hearing.
These are often the same folks who often say that loud pipes save lives and still believe that laying a bike down can avoid an accident.

These folks are usually grasping at any legal straws that let them dress up like the bikers from the Clint Eastwood, "any which way" movies.
