Canadian
I hope that the homeowners are not left alone by the law. Canadians deserve the right to defend their home and family with any means needed.
Grrr...
the system is not letting me edit that. Here's what I meant to say...

this isn't the kind of thing you hear about everyday but it has happened before . but don't have much sympathy for the attacker .
Perhaps a lesson for future bandits - pray it doesn't make other criminals decide to bring and use weapons! Shame, but the invaders made their own choice
Not so random after all.

POSTED AT 6:00 PM Thursday, January 3
A suspect in a home invasion is dead and another in hospital after an incident early Thursday morning near Langdon.
Strathmore RCMP say two assailants broke into Farmhouse around 3:35 a.m.
Police say the culprits, aged 32 and 27-years-old, stormed the bedroom where a 35-year-old man and his 24-year-old girlfriend were sleeping.
Police say the victim fought off his attackers, one of whom died at the scene.
The second assailant received serious stab wounds and fled the residence.
The resident rushed to hospital where he remains in stable condition.
Investigators say the injured assailant turned up at the Strathmore Hospital and was rushed to hospital in Calgary in critical condition.
A second occupant of the residence was unharmed.
Investigators say two men were renting the house.
Although it’s on a farm, the men are not farmers.
Police say there was no known criminal activity related to the farm or any of the people involved.
Police say the reason for the home invasion is still under investigation, but all parties involved knew each other.
No names have been released.

Still, is death a reasonable punishment for entering someones home?
It was in Langdon, AB, Canada, not Texas, US of A...
Breaking into their house and storming into someone's bedroom at 3AM and attacking them is reasonable grounds to stab the bastard.......repeatedly.

I don't say they shouldn't have defended themselves... But the outcome is kinda harsh, isn't it?

Not even a little bit harsh. Someone breaks into my home, one of us is leaving at least on a stretcher, most likely in a bag.

Sorry Brenda but they were perfectly justified. 2 people break into a man and womans bedroom and attack them. Do you honestly expect the victims to try and only stab in a non-fatal manner?
How can you judge the situation without being there?
They were probably paniced and very likely fighting for their lives. In that situation you strike and you strike to kill without any hesitation or else it may be you lying on the floor.
If somebody breaks into my house threatening me and my girlfriend you can bet I won't worry about "just wounding them" assuming I even have the presence of mind to think abou the situation rationally.
No. Society cannot expect people being attacked to make every effort to not defend themselves tothe fullest. In a barfight maybe but not when somebody or somebodies with unknown intentions willfully breaks into your house.
You strike to kill because any hesitation on your part will likely end in your death and your girlfriends/wifes/children.
