No matter who or how many people you put up there it will still come down to Innuit's on sleds doin the old patrols. There's not exactly very many roads there, air travel is dependant on weather and not sure about the high Arctic but the lower arctic has allmost 10 feet of ice on most waterbodies come winter.
So when all the modern modes of transportation are grounded for cold or blizzard and the polaris wont start there's still the trusty dog team.

Bootlegga

$1:
the National Post
$1:
Aurora fighter planes "???? Is this the Post or the Star?

Yeah! I read that too. Who wrote this crap Al Gore or David Suzuki?

Actually the Rangers are not so much of a joke as it would appear.
These guys are natural marksmen, thoroughly aclimatized, and thoroughly familiar with their surroundings.
Despite the age of the Lee-Enfields, they are more reliable and effective, in the frigid enviroment and massive engagement ranges a hypothetical scrap, in that area, would involve. I would not trust a C1 (FAL) or C7 (M16A2) in sub-zero conditions whereas the old smellie is as reliable as a stone-hammer.
