The cops who did it were in fear for their lives because they were pretty sure the bear looked like an ostrich that looked like someone they might have been looking for.

I lived in the Alberta mountain parks for a while. It actually happens quite often.
I recall a Park Ranger telling me of a time some lady wanted a picture of her kid with a bear, so she smeared honey all over the kids hands and had it feed the bear. Once the honey was gone, the bear was still hungry.
Did not end well for anyone. 
Quite a few people die yearly because Big Horn sheep crowd the roads through the parks. People like pictures with them, so they stop on the side of the road. Trucks going through the parks don't stop. People getting into and out of their cars on a narrow highway encounter high speed trucks. The truck always wins.

I suppose the ones most likely to take a smiling selfie of themselves in front of the gates at Auschwitz ("hey, yo, Arbeit Macht Frei represent!") or at a war memorial would also be the most likely to take a selfie with a wild animal, and probably not give a damn at all that the animal ends up getting killed as a result of this stupid behaviour. And humans are good for exactly what reason again?

What's sad and sick is IF one of those outstanding people took a selfie and the bear attacked them. Those same outstanding people would scream outrage and demand the bear be killed because how dear that bear maul them for being to close to it and bothering it. "All I wanted was a selfie with the cute bear" says "victim". Fucking MORONS.
