$1:
Greers home had been burglarized three times before, and he believed the same suspects were responsible.

He returned home shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday to find the pair in his home. Both suspects attacked him, hitting him with their fists and slamming him to the floor, breaking his collar bone, McDonnell said.

Whether he chased them down or not, I'm granting him self defense. THREE times he's been burgled? I'd have had enough too.

He's 80 and they assaulted him. I'd say he was prudent in firing at them until he was sure they had fled his property.

They broke into his house three times before, and had just assaulted him. He'd be reckless to assume they wouldn't return, perhaps with a weapon.

Ok I guess I'll be the sensible liberal here. Once someone flees your home and is running away from you, you are not in danger. You don't get to shoot someone in the back. If he had shot her dead while attacking I would have handed him a plaque. He ran after her just to kill her. I hope they throw him in jail for the rest of his sad life.

Didn't read the story, but if it went as you say, I agree with you. Except for the jail for life part, since he's so old. Let him plead to manslaughter, give him some house arrest and make sure he never owns a gun again. There needs to be more flexibility in the law. This guy isn't as guilty as the robber who shoots a store clerk, or the enraged wife who shoots her husband, but he is guilty. Ie he should get less of a sentence than the two other examples.

Store clerks that chase after armed robbers and shoot them down from behind also usually face no punishment from the law either. And that's true for Canada as much as it is in the US.

Turned out the bitch wasn't pregnant anyway. She was just another lying meth-head who figured that attacking and stealing from the elderly was a good-paying gig. Then she ran into the wrong senior. The liberals then freaked out. Not over any of her behaviour, of course, just over the elderly man who put a stop to her activities.

Are you also going to give him a police officer to protect his home and life until he dies? If not they how can you justify taking away his only means of defense?

A clear case of self defense, breaking into a home carries up to a life sentence, he just saved the state some cash.

Normally I would agree with you, but again..... this was the THIRD time. I'm thinking he was within his rights to believe he DID still have to defend himself, and that there was a VERY good chance they would come back if he didn't.

The way the law is written, he could be found guilty if charged, that much is clear.

Either way, given the circumstances and his advanced age, I wouldn't expect him to serve much time, if any. Either due to leniency or the fact that he really doesn't have too many years left anyway.

At his age the beating he got could have easily killed him. The fact he was able to turn the tables at all when facing two violent twenty-something assailants is remarkable.

Hopefully the pain from the bootfucking and broken collarbone that the scum left him with will be the only negative that happens to him.

Only a half-assed job. Left one of them alive instead of doing a 'Full Dirty Harry'. Oh well. Gotta cut the old guy some slack. After all, he is 80 years old!

3 cheers for Grandpa anyway. [cheer] [cheer] [cheer] [B-o]

Great! So he can be robbed and beaten again by the next pair of hoodlums!!
That is what you call flexibility???
