If Prop 8 passes, it'll be an interesting commentary on American values - that apparently killing unborn babies is less morally reprehensible than a couple of guys wanting to say a few words to each other.
the Arizona ban passed.
Cali ban is 52-48 to ban, 5% counting left.
I find it cool that Americans get to vote on issues like this, as opposed to the way things work here...

Americans have not been given the option to vote on abortion.
Prop 8 is considered passed down here now. It's mathematically impossible for the no vote to win now. The libs, of course, swear they'll fight this in the courts but where it is a state constitutional amendment they cannot win in state court and the Federal courts are unlikely to overturn a state constitutional matter for fear of it going to the Supreme Court where five conservative justices will uphold the law.

Only in states that allow direct democracy. Not all states do.

What do you call Colorado's Amendment 48? South Dakota Initiative 11? And, to a lesser extent, California Prop 4 (though that wouldn't have actually restricted anything)?

Good point. So what you're saying is that American values
do apparently involve the consideration of killing unborn babies as morally reprehensible.

No. All those measures would have placed additional restrictions, or outright bans, on abortion, and they all failed.
Bans on gay marriage, or gay adoption passed or are passing in Arizona, Arkansas, California, and Florida.
Upshot: Abortion good, gays bad.

'Nuff said by a liberal French guy.

Thats kind of a shallow comment.. apples and oranges... the two subjects are in no way connected.. and " two guys" (could be two females) wanting to share a life and enjoy the same rights as everyone else is an important issue for gay men and women..
the right to choose is is not even on the same level in terms of being a moral issue..

racist and sexist... and homophobic
I've never understood why the government requries a licence to get married anyways. A marrriage is a solemn vow to your loved one, usually witnessed by friends and family. What the hell do you need the government for?
