Canada closes embassy in Iran, expels Iranian diplomats
The never ending war. At least we known Iran hates us. There's plenty more in the ME and elsewhere that pretend they don't.

Well, awesome avatar and bizarre Hitler fetish aside, I'm fairly certain that I can't be called a Jew-hater. That being said, I'm going to go with the idea of launching another major war on the behalf of Likud and Netanyahu is a colossally bad idea, especially in light of how badly the Iraq war went and how it all turned out to be based on a shitpile of hardcore right-wing lies. Doing the same with Iran will almost absolutely be even worse than the Iraq experience was, and it could be the final straw of military adventurism that permanently bankrupts the United States. With zero likelihood of forming another ridiculous "Coalition Of The Willing", at least not with any serious partners for the US like Britain, to at least put a veneer of international apporval on it, it'll probably end up drawing the Russians and Chinese into the whole mess this time. The propaganda won't work a second time around and the prospect of scaring off Moscow or Beijing with a round of "war on terror!" histrionics is absolutely laughable.
I'm pro-Israel to the point that I give them effective carte blanche in their own region in order to survive. But I've had enough of the reflexive use of Israeli post-Holocaust paranoia and guilt-mongering that the Netanyahu and Greater Israel ilk employ against our weak-willed and gullible Western politicians to goad us into actions against Muslims that aren't in our own best interests. Considering that both the US Joint Chiefs Of Staff and high-ranking Israeli defense and intelligence officials regularly state that any attack on Iran is not justifiable at this point in time I'll say it plain right now: no war for Netanyahu and his right-wing Christian fundamentalist allies in the US Congress and GOP who actively want Armageddon to finally happen.
(fixed for typos, etc.)
Oh I agree Thanos old chap. I don't advocate any further war with those fuckers. What we do need to do is remain vigilant and carry on developing kick-arse drones so we can kill when required. Pretending the penitent masses facing Mecca as they pray are some benign horde hasn't been a success at all.
Really, once we get the fuck out of Afghanistan we will be in a state very similar to the Cold War. The USSR will have been replaced by the Ummah just like in the UK the IRA have been replaced by Pakistani Jihadists.
It’s just a pity they have all that oil, otherwise we would have no need to pretend that we don’t know they hate us.

The day that the oil is effectively used up and we no longer have to deal with the Middle East at all is going to be one of the great days for the Western industrialized world. And it can't come soon enough.

Sorry to tell you Lemmy, but with the remaining reserves Alberta will not run out in your life time. I would recommend you do not hold your breath.

Speaking to reporters in Russia, where he's attending the Asia-Pacific Economic Co-Operation summit, Baird said the government is formally listing Iran today as a state sponsor of terrorism
I'm a little embarrassed by my ignorance, but I had assumed we (Canada) had already recognized that Iran was involved in sponsoring terror, through its links to Hezbollah and Hamas.
Is that why the CBC comment community is pissed? Because the government is stating publicly what everyone already knew (or should have known)?
I can't help but feel somewhat sorry for Iran as a country. So much potential, all being squandered because the country is run by a gang of 7th century throwbacks.

The CBC comment community would eat their own shit if they thought it would make Harper look bad.

That sounds like a challenge for CKA posters.

You can spit shit out of your mouth, but when you've got shit for brains, like Harper, there's fuck all you can do about it.
