Canadian
They think bean counters are really going to care about our history or heritage? If they sell the CBC look at even less Canadian Content on TV. Also watch how less and less of our youth will go into acting or the arts. The other way to deal with it is go the way the Americans go towards funding PBS. Just my 2 cents
I am sorry but as much as I enjoy the programs on the CBC there is a lack of innovation. Take for instance the sale of the HNC theme as an example or the idea of the creative commons. Do you see ANY CBC content with creative commons? This is a PUBLIC BROADCASTER and you would think they would release their content for the public and not hold copyright. The public pays for it after all and creative commons has been around since 2002 and the CBC has done NOTHING with it. This plays to the detractors of the CBC very nicely as this shows they are more interested in becoming a monopoly and squeezing out the domestic market rather than fulfilling their mandate. I am sick of paying taxes for the CBC so it can buy US programs and Canada 'lite' rip offs of US programs like the stupid reality shows. As for Via, unless there is a nationalization of rail that CN freight can't handle Via is redundant. Also, selling CANDU is a great idea. We need to let this loose on the market now while nuclear is hot. As it is now it is STALE. CANDU reactors are proven but the CANDU 6 is decades old. Right now except for France we are the only country in the world making these types of reactors. Imagine if we could set up one for Iran what a media coup that would be for Canada as CANDU reactors can not be weaponized.
Wouldn't they be able to get more for these assets in a hot economy? Wouldn't this pretty much be selling low?
I'm no investment genius, but wouldn't this be a better time to buy?
Don't sell VIA. It was formed because the private sector wasn't offering the services that it did before. The first thing that happened when BC rail was sold was the passenger service was gutted. Now all that's left is a tourist service. If you sell VIA all you'll have left is a Rocky Mountain rail tour and we already have one of those.
this is a bad idea on both counts, I don't support the sale of either. But i fear the conservatives will use the recession as an excuse to push forward there agendas.
Supporting the sale of the CBC, against the sale of VIA.
Sell the GO instead, fucking blows.
