That's being a bit simplistic, wouldn't you say?
Their succes is a threat to small towns, small business and Uniones at large. I'd hate to see nothing but metropoles with slave labour.

No, I wouldn't say that. If WalMart fucked everyone, how would they become the biggest company the world has ever known? They aren't perfect, by any means, but they seem to be able to offer shit people want. Otherwise, why would people shop there?

Yes, you are simplifying things drasticaly by concluding that people all across america are satisfied with this situation simply becaus WalMart is so successfull. People in general aren't very bright and do not know what's good for them. Do we agree on that atleast?

$1:
How are they a threat to small towns and small businesses? If a competitor cannot offer the same prices as Walmart then they have to be able to offer something that consumers feel is worth the higher prices. If not, why do they deserve to make money simply by existing? If business was that easy I'd open a retail store.

WalMart exist simply becaus they offer products of low quality, made by a work force that has a salary you and I would consider an insult, for a very low price. That's the key issue. Low prices. People do not reflect on what they are buying as long as it's cheap. Don't you dare tell me that WalMart offer quality merchandise for a "decent" price.

$1:
And a threat to Unions? Why should anyone but a Union member care anything about Unions?Unions were useful 50 years ago, not today.

As long as minimum wage requires people to have three jobs, unions are essential. That's the only way for workers to organize against systems of slavery.

$1:
Slave labour? What are you smoking? People volunteer for these jobs! It's not like their aeronautical engineering firm went of of business when Walmart moved to town, forcing these highly skilled people to work for a pitance. Walmart creates jobs for unskilled people.

Of coars they want a job when not having one, that's practicaly making you a slave, is better than eating garbage. That's just ridiculous. It's outright laughable that anyone would take such a job.. atleast for me. I'd sit around colecting welfair checks from the state untill they change the laws to guarantee a decent salary or I'd be on the streets demonstrating. In that situation a union isn't too chaby. You won't see me working three jobs.

$1:
The sad thing is, the people you are trying to "protect" are those that need Walmart the most.

You mean people who get a lousy pay from businesses like WalMart?

Fine, Microsoft still is not the monopolistic monster that Wal Mart is.

According to the EU it is.

And the EU can suck the pus out of my hemmorhoids.

neopundit neopundit:
There are fundamental differences between Microsoft and WalMart. Microsoft had an element of luck involved, as they produced a product on the cusp of one of the biggest technological inventions in history.

No, correction: Microsoft produced one of the biggest technological inventions in history.

And that would be?

BartSimpson BartSimpson:
neopundit neopundit:
Yes, they had a lot of brains and foresight. But who knew how big computers and the internet would be?

Exactly. Microsoft came into an infant market and made it a major market. They are reaping the rewards of their risks and investments.

Microsoft got big cuz all the up n' coming computer makers and programmers needed a "common language" to use in this industry and they chose Microsoft becaus they had stolen and perfected much of their technology from Apple which was the biggest threat to them all and who did not only produce OS but computers and the whole shebang. The big enemy. Hense the monopoly for Microcock.

And that is exactly the difference between North Americans and Europeans. Europeans are arrogant enough to profit from the states social system and say they are too arrogant to want to work for a company like Walmart AND expect to be pampered, while the Walmart employee who is working his/her ass off standing on their feet all day, gets my respect. At least they are smart enough to know welfare doesn't cover the bills in North America. In Europe, it does. You can even drive a car being on welfare.

Principles are nice, but not if you can't pay your bills anymore. Arrogance is just plain stupid.

Walmart doesn't pay that bad btw. Not worse than any other non-educated job.

I didn't say anything like that. I didn't even mention America. But there are people who love Walmart. I know because the parking lot is always jammed.

And while I do agree that people often don't know what's best for them, that doesn't give us a right to tell them what's right. Otherwise, you'd be behind the Iraq war, wouldn't you?

That is nonsense. Walmart offers the same products I can get anywhere else for a lower price. Have you ever been to Walmart?

So what's different about stocking shelves at Walmart then Home Depot, Future Shop, 7/11 etc etc etc. It's an unskilled retail job, what do you expect?

You mean people who get a lousy pay from businesses like WalMart?

No, I mean the people who shop there because it's cheap or work there because they wouldn't have a job otherwise.

They can in Canada too, although most of the wagons end up on blocks in their front yards.

Arrogant? :?: What? Working for a piss poor salary is deservant of respect? Thats slavery! If you don't fight the system that's making you this piss poor then I'd say you deserve contempt.
"Europeans are arrogant enough to profit" that's the part when I just can't hold my tounge.. Proffit?? ! "from the states social system and say they are too arrogant to want to work for a company like Walmart". Why should you accept working for nothing? WHY!??? The social systems are their to protect teh pople from this kind of abuse!

Everyone deserves a decent living no matter what you work with/as.

If you are able bodied and don't have the capability to produce beyond the minimum wage it's your system that is failing.

Now please get me a link where it says how much WalMart pays her employees...

No one DESERVES a decent living. If you are not willing to get yourself a decent education, then you cannot expect society to pay for your lazyness

An "unskilled" workforce should still have a salary to live off of without a significantly worse living standard.

You deserve what you can afford. There should be a minimal standard for housing and food, but anything after that, education, good luck and good management will bring those.

I guess that depends on your personal philosophy. I disagree. Vehemently.

What I earn is mine. Only I deserve it.

OPP @ Fri Nov 02, 2007 8:38 pm

This debate is really pissing me off! How the fuck can you people conclude that people who work for minimum wage does not work hard for the unsatesfying pay they get?
Simply saying that they should have gotten an education does not solve anything!!!! I know a lot of peope who handle registers at the local grocery store and are very educated! Work comes in all chapes and formes and someone has to take the less glamorous once. Selfish fucking pigs!

Brenda @ Fri Nov 02, 2007 8:41 pm

Now where is my link OP? You claim that walmart pays her employees shit. Please show me...

I have worked as a cashier at a grocery store, and I could live well off of that. So, what IS your point exactly?
