City of Victoria to remove John A. Macdonald statue from front steps of city hall

$1:
The City of Victoria is planning to remove the statue of John A. Macdonald, Canada's first prime minister, from the front steps of city hall because of what it says is his role as "a leader of violence against Indigenous peoples."

Council will be asked Thursday to endorse the decision of the City Family, a group created by the municipality last year to address issues of reconciliation, to have the statue removed on Aug. 11.

Disgusting, and absolutely deplorable!

They want to talk reconciliation? This will just add further division amongst Canadians. John A. MacDonald was our greatest Prime Minister, and had the stones to put together Canada as a whole. Removing his legacy started with that abomination of a new $10 dollar bill that will be coming out (Note: I have nothing against Viola Davis, I just believe she should not replace a great Canadian hero like John A.) next year, and continues with statues being taken down, and building names replaced.

How is it that when ISIS went and destroyed history that they were evil tyrants, and yet when our own citizens do it here at home, they are lauded?

How sad we have become.

Oh I'm sure there is some SJW Snowflake somewhere that thinks ISIS is just misunderstood. I'm so fucking done with the "lets apply a modern filter to historical figures, and judge them on that" mindset. I'm looking forward to the day when these regressives are seen as the mouth-breathing troglodytes they are.

As a former resident of Victoria, I just threw up a little.

But I'm not surprised.

Bring on the earthquake.

If you don't like the guy, why not just allow the birds to shit all over it? and never (or very rarely) clean the shit off of it.

I wonder which side of the political spectrum the mayor leans towards? ROTFL

Well that mayor is a dummy.

List the statue on eBay and disperse the funds to the living descendants.

Thank you, your valued input is noted.

Removing the statue is just a way to whitewash history and prevent people from knowing McDonald's history.

Instead of getting rid of it, they should add a plaque that lists both his accomplishments (1st PM, CP railway) and his mistakes (residential schools, National Policy, etc).

That I agree with completely. I hope removing it was just the way to begin discussions to do exactly that.
John A's statue is there as he once won a byelection in Victoria. He remains the most long distance 'parachute' candidate

The Victoria city council may get some international support. The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia also finds things Canadian a “painful reminder”.*
