Well lets start by providing some facts and figures to support your "shafting" claim...then we can figure out how this $8.5 million could or could not prevent you taking a long shaft up the hooper when you retire.

I grew up with people telling me that I'll never collect from CPP. I could care less if it gets scrapped. I just want a way to avoid paying premiums.

Who tells you that?

I'm not talking about the CPP, I'm talking about my pension. Try to follow along.

Good for you if you are contributing 15%.

But please clarify something, are we supposed to feel sorry for you?

Lemmy,

why would you neg rep me for this? I seriously think that you mis-read some attitude into my post that wasn't there.

Jim

So why should we care if you're "going without" because you opt or your place of employment is opting to take 15% of your salary for a pension?

This is a topic about CPP, not about your personal pension plan. So don't get all pissy when someone makes the assumption you're talking about the subject of this post.

I'm not asking anyone to feel sorry for me. I'm only saying that I give up a lot of dough to fund my retirement. If others don't, that's their choice.

And I think if my posts were clear whether I was talking about the CPP or other pensions, which I believe IS relevant to this debate, as private pensions are an option and an alternative.

Perhaps the use of "my pension" would have made things more clear.

When you say that you're contributing 15% to a pension fund, considering the topic, it's fair to assume you're referring to the CPP.

thats is fair.

When I use the word "shaft" I am referring to not getting CPP in 25 years, so I guess the question is "Will the CPP be bankrupt in 25 years?"

And, if it isn't bankrupt, will it be designed to disqualify the average working class Canadian that actually saved for their retirement?

Maybe so. If so, I apologize. Re-reading what I wrote still seems pretty clear to me, but my apologies. [B-o]

Surely, you can see that a person like me (who isn't contrbuting as much as you) might see the CPP premium as a relatively high ratio of what is getting saved on my behalf...

...if I am contibuting $100 in my RRSPs and $1000 in CPP...perhaps it would do me alot of good to opt out of the CPP and start contributing $1100 to my RRSPs.(assuming that my "shaft" conspiracy is correct)

In the 80s and 90s, everyone told me this. Has the last 10 years been good to my future prospects?

Honestly? I have no clue.

Executives get experience where most people only have dreams, they become exceptionally well informed and competent people. There are only a few of them so there's supply and demand that sets their price at millions a year. That's the way the system works. It's no different from sports and entertainment where the very top people make off of scale salaries. That's the theory, no one is about to challenge it either. Don't get so upset. (Of course years ago they didn't make those salaries and the system worked all the same.)

lol here in Quebec they lost like 40% last year alone. You should be happy with your 18% :P

Anyway, who do you think fly in first class ? Government workers. It's not their money so why not ? I agree with Lemmy: let me deal with MY money.
