"which was so complicated even his top aides had trouble understanding it. "

translation..we have no clue what we're talking about.

Harper needs to go, I see myself as a progressive conservative and I can't stand his neocon policies of sucking up to Bush.

Looks like the so-called "weakling" will get a majority government after all.

Fuck! Here we go again...pissing away $300 million or so for an election that won't give us a real government. I'd prefer if they wait until one party actually has a chance of getting a majority.

Wally_Sconce @ Thu Aug 07, 2008 11:42 am

Another $300 million of tax payers money to tell the Liberals that they still need to rebuild.

For that reason alone, I should vote anything but Liberal.

No way. Minorities are far better than majorities. I'd prefer a Conservative minority to a Liberal majority, but the best probable situation would be a Liberal minority. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, some of the best things about Canada have come during minority governments. CPP, health care, SSM. Every voice counts in a minority, down to a man. That's why the Cadman thing is such a big deal - every vote counted.

If we'd had minorities, we probably wouldn't have the GST, wouldn't have NAFTA, wouldn't have the gun registry. With a Harper majority, we'd have had bill C-61 passed. We'd have had piecemeal senate reform through 8-year term limits on Senators. If Dion wins a majority we'll have the green shift. If he only gets a minority, it won't happen.

Minorities are good. Good ideas with broad, multipartisan support happen, and dangerous monopartisan ideas die.

hurley_108: I agree but there needs to be a shift in the thinking in Ottawa. The
"natural governing party" have had things their way for so long they feel they don't have to work with this government, and it definately shows.
Canadians need to get more politically active and stop ignoring our government, hoping it will get better.

.. I still doubt Dion will start the ball rolling.

meh i think that depends on what you think is the best about canada. CPP and healthcare will probably never go away but i think they are detrimental. Im not sure what to think about this one however. I dont think many people will buy into Dion's green shift. Thats the consensus i gather form the people I talk to at least.

The people I talk too usually say "Green what?" followed by "Stephane who?" 8)

The problem with a minority liberal government is they will back every Liberal majority Bill that was rammed down our throats.

I hate the gun registry with a passion. As long as it has a chance of surviving, or as long as the liberals support the idea, I will not vote for those arm-chair assholes.

Wally_Sconce @ Thu Aug 07, 2008 5:34 pm

Last year I created a pretty ambitious cash flow plan that still left me with about $600 per month of positive cashflow. With the rising cost of childcare, food, electricity, gasoline, etc....I now have a -$160 cashflow unless I compromise my financial plan.

The liberals want to tax the hell out of me and I can't afford it, they won't get my vote.

How many of you guys aren't saving for your retirement? How many Canadians are in the exact same situation?

imagine how much harder it will be to get started when that asshole Dion nails us to our coffins with higher taxes.
