Edmonton mayor urges Eskimos to move quickly on name change

f the Edmonton Eskimos don't rename the team before next season, the 2018 Grey Cup could be "beset by a very charged" debate about the issue, warns Mayor Don Iveson.
"This conversation is not going to go away," Iveson said in an interview with CBC Radio's Edmonton AM on Thursday.
"With the Grey Cup coming here next fall, it's going to be difficult to imagine that conversation not coming back in an even more significant way over the next year.
"I worry that what would otherwise be a very positive Grey Cup could be beset by a very charged conversation around the team name."

After so many years of hearing about it it's sounding as though the name change will happen. I wouldn't be surprised if they got the ball rolling on it once this season is over. The next question will be what to change it to and if they will put it out to the public for suggestions and voting for the new name.

There shouldn't be a name change and SJW Iveson is a coward to do this after he was re-elected. Political correctness will become the end of us.

The name more than likely won't change. It's been no big deal since the 1940's, and there's no reason to change it just because some snowflakes have hurt feelings. Screw 'em.

Next the jihadis will want Winnipeg's team changed. Peta will want the Lions and Tigercats names changed. Anything to do with the Calgary Stampede has got to be bad. Argonauts, what about soldiers and airmen. Very discriminatory. Roughriders is way too American, has to go! Alouettes is safe. Nobody wants to deal with Quebec
