As a child when the Lord's prayer was read in class, all non christian children were allowed to be excused. Why is the same respect not being given to Christian children in this case?
I'm glad I'm finished school. When I have children they will be most likely be home schooled.
One more example that the public school system is becoming increasingly irrelevant to the education of students. A little more focus on academics and a little less on political indoctrination and maybe we can delay Asia from owning Canada but a generation or two.

These matterials are about teaching acceptance and respect of others in the community, people were excused fromthe lords prayer out of acceptance, and prayer ended because of respect. Likewise, these matterials are able to teach children to accept and respect those who happen to be gay.

I agree, I think things like intelligent design and religous debate is taking away from children's studies.

Nice title, though, RUEZ, since what she actually says is:

Bond said the protest is premature since government has not yet moved on a promise to revise the K-12 curriculum to ensure individuals and groups "across the full range of gender identity and sexual orientation" are represented in a positive, non-denigrating way that emphasizes their contributions to society.
The title is taken right from the article. Read the article you'll see this;

That promise was part of a contract the government signed last spring with gay activists Murray and Peter Corren to end a protracted human-rights case. As part of that deal, the government said it would enforce a policy that limits the ability of families to opt out of classes they find objectionable.
Tell me why gay activists get to tell Christian families what their children should learn in a public school?

You think that's what this is about.... pushing a gay agenda? It's about inclusiveness - recognizing that not all kids have a mom and a dad at home, and that some people are different, and that's okay.
But for some people, it's all about gays trying to recruit your children, which of course means they'll get AIDS and die.
Don't tell me what I think.

Should "Christian Activists" be allowed to tell Muslims what to teach their children? Should text books saying that Jews and Christians are pigs be discouraged?
Primary school should teach children about the world they live in, themselves, and each other. Why should we teach children about the residents and comparative governments of France, Russia, or Africa and not tell them about the differences in their own classroom? My preschool has two non standard families out of fifteen. That's a significant percentage. One child thought my daughter's mother was dead since her dad comes to school with her

Helping children understand the world around them is a good thing on so many different levels.
This is not to say that this couldn't get overdone. However, seeing that the theocrats in Surrey started this I'll tally it up for instant-karma.
So the muslim families will be forced to have their kids attend sodomite & safe buggery awareness classes too, right?
Or is it okay to tweak Christians while giving a pass to muslims?

Abso-fuckin-lutely. If Muslims want to be accepted and live in a great society of freedom, they're going to have to make room for those around them as well. If they don't like it, this might not be the right place. Love your neighbor and all. I think comparative religion has a place in schools as well, if that helps.

In a public school? Certainly. As I've stated the non Christian children had the right to be excused from hearing the Lords' prayer, I have no problem with it. It seems the PC crowd will bend over backwards to accomodate anyone but Christians. Just for the record I have no problem with learning about the world around us, including gays or anyone for that matter. I do have a problem with a double standard in our world that says Christians must accept anything we tell them, while anyone else can scream discrimination.

What the hell are you going on about?

USCAdad stated a response to your question. I'll abide by his response.
Why does the school system need to teach about every minority out there and everyone with problems? We had dyslexic people in our class as well as the mentally retarded and we didn't have a course about them. If you want to learn about diseases and what people do go become a social worker or take psychology for further studies I see no reason for it to be in taught in the public school curriculum.
Also if you want to learn about homosexuals we had after study learning classes and a student wing called the Gay-Straight Alliance. If you wanted to learn about them you could go there. We also had a Christian Council as well which you were welcome to attend and discus Christianity and God. Note how none of these things were forced on anyone and were optional studies if you felt like learning or talking about them. I think that is the way it should be not some forced learning of ideological and sexual preferences. After all wasn’t it Trudeau who stated that the state had no purpose in people’s bedrooms? So why are we bringing it back into it?

Good percpective Clogaroo. I could be getting the cases confused, but I believe that this started when some "Christians" wanted gay family books taken out of the library. It wasn't exactly the wonderful live and let live that you are describing. Like I said.... instant karma.
I don't think homosexuality should be tought in the classroom period, it's just another way to pander to a special interest group by the never ending stream of appeasers to show how they are superior and more "Tolerant" than us "Average" joes. If a student is gay and needs assistance that's what the GC is for. Where'd the three R's go? What's next a special lesson plan on Cross Dressing, Transvestites LOL where will this PCness end.
