Incredible videos.
It's also heartwarming to think that while we're tracking one that won't hit our planet, one we didn't see coming did.

There could be a connection between the two.
The skies over my area are going to be clear tonight so I'll be out there with binoculars to see if I can see that asteroid.

In related news, the owner of the local glass repair shop is already planning his retirement.
$1:
Vladimir Zhirinovsky, a nationalist leader noted for vehement statements, said "It's not meteors falling. It's the test of a new weapon by the Americans," the RIA Novosti news agency reported.
What a knob.
he's going to shoot them with his atomic gun
Sure it wasn't a North Korean rocket...or a 787 Dreamliner test flight?

Tunguska part deux......Russian seems to attract these exploding meteors like trailer parks attract tornadoes....although it was about 105 years between events.

In fairness, Russia is a pretty big target. It would be of no surprise to me that similar events have taken place in Canada, too. It's also statistically likely that similar things have happened over the oceans where no one noticed it at all.
The only reason this event stands out is because it was so well documented and that the Russians are open enough anymore to share the video. Had this happened 30 years ago we'd have never heard about it in the West.

Seems Québec is a big target too... although the last one was 1.6 million years ago.

First time I've seen the word "astrobleme".
(from Greek astron, blema, “star wound”), remains of an ancient meteorite-impact structure on the Earth’s surface, generally in the form of a circular scar of crushed and deformed bedrock.

Here's a scary thought.....at 55°09′17″N 61°22′33″E as the impact point, if it hit about 12 hours earlier it could have hit near Grande Prairie Alberta or Dawson Creek BC.

There is no connection. They are headed in the opposite directions.
You should be able to spot it coming from 180 degrees, to 270, inclination 30 degrees between 18:00 and 21:00 GMT.
