I am absolutely appalled by this article. Immigration protocols in the UK are in shambles anyway and now they're bringing this in! MORONS.

what idiot thought of this one.. thousand pounds isnt nearly enough of a bond..

but there is so much discrimination and room for corruption in this, its just a stupid idea..

if you don't think they will return home..

DON'T LET THEM IN IN THE FIRST PLACE !!!!!

I think it's grossly unfair. Other newspapers are reporting on it in more detail - some are saying that it's geared more towards Iraqis and people from the Middle East. Yep.

This is a great law and I wish that Canada would implement a similar immigration policy.

It helps prevent those who would abuse the system by allowing their relatives to over stay visas or try to sponsor them from within the country, rather than waiting their turn like everyone else from outside the country.

It's a "DEPOSIT" they get the money back when they leave.

It's a good idea. And it is the UK's right to ask that visitors post a bond to ensure that they leave at the end of their stay. If they leave they get the money back. If they are unable to leave for whatever reason, the money can be used to send them back. If they don;t want to leave, the money can be used to deport them.

All around a great idea. R=UP

Too little too late for the U.K. Half the world and his mother are already here.

It's a great idea in theory, but the immigration system is beyond fucked up and this won't really work because of that. The government doesn't seem to recognise that it's not VISITORS who are the problem, it's the asylum seekers and the refugees who get to come here and live off the welfare system, or if their status' are revoked, they find other ways of coming back into the country.

It's not visitors who are the problem. It's the people who are already here.

Yes good idea but ineffective against the bogus "refuggees".

I recall flying into Pearson, and there was a slight delay at customs....an "undocumented" swarthy looking man was 3 ahead in the line. I cleared customs and exited the doors behind this fellow who was enthusiastically greeted by familly waiting behind the rope. "Welcome to Canada."

Third world imagration policy.....no quota there obviously.....no visa needed.
