Much as I think our prisons are to soft, this is the inmates home and they should at least be allowed to have a smoke outside. I predict this ban will be more trouble than it's worth

dumb idea, prison riots anyone ?

sandorski @ Sun Mar 02, 2008 11:05 am

Mixed feelings. A great opportunity to make a bunch of Smokers quit, risk of riots for sure, the lifestyle change might make some Inmates more willing to change other aspects of their lives, but the Prisons seem to have smuggling problems(might be isolated though)so this may not work well.

Wait and see how it works out.

good luck with that one.. riots coming..

That may be a bigger deterrent for going to jail than........ actually going to jail.

Not clever!!!
Picture this:
The % of smokers among inmates is massive....the prospect of a critical mass of potentially violent criminals all in withdraw---having a nicotine fit simultaneously is mind-boggling.......
With inmates having the franchise (the vote) this could be critical politically. The LIBRANOs hands are tied and can do nothing other than support this new policy....
Definitely interesting times in the prison system.....

Sounds like a waste of time but the one benefit is this will force the Libs and NDP to come out against the government, supporting criminals rights. Crime and punishment is a CPC strong point and having the Libs defend smoking criminals is a definate disadvantage in a future election.

If it's butt-out time for the inmates then they'll just have to amuse themselves with more butt-fuck instead.

Cops can deal with rioters, rioters aren't really a big problem inside a prison. They expect riots all the time in prisoners, and generally do get them.

It will cause trouble, as in more riots but the end result will be better. For one, they will quit smoking and might want to change other aspects of there life as well as somebody said in here.

Another one would be less people doing bad things, surely it wouldn't increase because of it. If I was a smoker, and a bank robber or whatever. I wouldn't rob a bank just for that reason, for a smoker. That is beyond cruelty lol.

oh well maybe the criminals should of though about this before they broke the law .

but interesting to see if it works or if the idea doesn't when its implemented .
