FIFA won't ban vuvuzelas from World Cup
MORE COWBELL!!!
These noisy tubes are quite annoying. South Africa should remember that football is the worlds game.
Chill out with the noisy frigging trumpet things and watch the bloody game!
Make noise afterwards. England fans will help you out with the drinking and fighting aspects of football.

Apparently there's a way to manipulate the audio on your TV to reduce the sound of the vuvuzela drone from coming through your speakers.

$1:
The vuvuzela's blast has been compared to the cry of an angry elephant and can generate an awesome 144 decibels - a level humans rarely encounter outside war zones - when blown in unison by a crowd.
Three easy steps to eradicating the vuvuzela noise:
1. Enter the sound settings for your TV, find the equaliser.
2. Drop the 300Hz channel (which Samsung TVs have, second from left), and raise the adjacent levels.
3. Save as a custom set-up (if you can).
It doesn't remove the vuvuzela noise completely but it does make a significant difference. It will also affect the commentary, making the voices not as full bodied. The settings should work on most TVs where you can make changes to the sound levels in this way.
Haven't tried it myself yet. Maybe someone can give it a try and see if it works.

Maybe when FIFA learns that TV veiwership will be WAY down, that people don't want an abnoxious din beamed into their homes, they'll crack down on it. If I were a CEO and had paid millions of dollars to run commercials during the tournament, I'd be PISSED that FIFA isn't going to stop this noise. I know lots of die-hard football nuts who aren't tuning in (or are muting their sets) specifically because of the background noise.

I tried to watch a couple matches this weekend. was able to handle about 3 minutes of the buzzing bees before I had to turn it off. I thought at first that the speakers on my TV and gone bad.
If they want to do it when the South African team is playing then fine thats thier thing, but doing it during every match is annoying the shit outta me. I just won't watch the matches. Turning the sound down won't work for me either because I am doing other things and am listening more then watching.

I read in the Dutch paper that the NOS (Dutch broadcasting corporation) has turned the stadium sound down, so the viewers are less annoyed by the sounds. Why can't every broadcasting corporation do that?

It's. Tricky because those horns are in B and C range which is right around that of normal human speech.
Same as Hardly--I can't stand the noise and end uyp switching off the voolume. Not that I'm missing much--soccer commentary isn't that great, but they do have inspired moments of derision and sarcasm!
To me, the issue is the soundproofing for the commentators. They have to practically yell into their mics.

Sorry, but soccer, or football is as exciting as watching paint dry! With or without annoying plastic horns.

Also, what the f*ck is with the name vuvezelas? Sounds like something the little whos from whoville wish to get at Christmas!
