It's disappointing that France is sending any more troops to Afghanistan at all - thereby increasing its subsidy of the USA's ongoing Rape of Iraq.

Perfect deal all the way around. The French move into a combat role in the east (and there is sitll work to do there) and the US sends a battalion from the east to the KAF area of ops. Seeing as how I think it is the 10th Mountain Div that the US has operating in the east, that means that well trained, hardened troops move on in our flanks.

A quick google seems to show that there is a fair amount of military activity in eastern Afghanistan. Maybe the French ain't such cowards...
True but, the insurgent stronghold, supplied and the leadership supported out of Pakistan tribal lands is Khandahar. So big deal, France is in Eastern Afghanistan. Wait till we find out what they ACTUALLY do and more to the point what they want in return....the shoe WILL drop. If they do not send the Legion, they'll stay in their camps navel gazing. Other so called "smaller" NATO countries can and do more there and elsewhere than France ever will or has. France globally is like Quebec nationally when push comes to shove, a liability. France in fact (which is missed by most here) pulled out of NATO in the 60's under that f##k de Gaulle. In fact when he demanded that all NATO assets and particularly US troops be removed from French soil, Lyndon Johnson asked if that included the 60 odd thousand buried there. de Gaulle hung up.
