Regardless of which side of the fence you sit on, should the RCMP uniform be used to advance the gay agenda?

I think if we're going to accept gay marriage, then we must allow a person to do anything his or her straight counterpart would also do. I like to believe that the wearing of a uniform is not so he or she can further thier agenda but to show thier pride on a day that is very important to them. After all they are exactly like you or I, save for the fact they fell in love with someone of the same sex.
I agree completely with Ruez
hehe my gf made this pic:
It's their wedding, they could be naked for all I care. By having gays in the RCMP in the 1st place they are promoting the 'gay agenda' so I don't see much of an issue.
Considering they are there to serve and protect the public it is only fitting that they also represent the public by their staffing levels and the respecting the traditions they hold sacred in kind. Anything less would be homophobic.
What!!! Neither is wearing white?? Who has the garter belt and bouquet? As long as they can catch the bad guys I don't care who they snuggle down with at night. Sex is such a small part of who and what we are (for some of you smaller than most). One of the constables I worked with up north, the only female in the detachment, was gay. It only became an issue with the other members when she admitted to it. Initially the members had issues with having a female member in a northern posting, but she proved herself. Even so the detachment commander made it clear in a couple private conversations that he really didn't want her around. Even when a few started warming up to her, once the admission came out the walls went up once again. Sadly, she finally left under circumstances that weren't the best. We kept in touch and she is now married to her partner and they have three kids and she is a suicide prevention cousellor in Australia.
Personally I think it's good shit that these Mounties (lets not forget the RCMP program is probably the toughest training for cops in Canada) who just happen to be gay, got wed in uniform.
Esprit-de-corps meets gay rights!
Brave stuff and I wish them both well!
I also agree with Ruez. Who better to do this than two of the trainees in the toughest police training programme, not only in Canada, but the WORLD. I say congrats to them, just as I would any couple.
I voted yes, that it does embarrassed the uniform but that's my bias showing.
Is it fair and just? Yes.
If we allow Mounties to wear the uniform to conventional weddings, we have to allow this.
Good luck with the lawsuit from Disney....
Well, the Mounties do claim that the "always get their man"!
Ridenrain,
There's a misconception about the RCMP licence and Disney. From what I can tell, the RCMP hired Disney to assist them in marketing the image, and Disney received some of the profits from said agreement or was flat out paid.
Anyway, the RCMP red uniform isn't "owned" by Disney, nor do they have a say in how it's used by the RCMP.
2Cdo
GROAN!
Hey Ruez, I totally agree.
I'm sure that the RCMP has regulations regarding wearing uniforms off-duty.
If they have made exceptions for opposite-sex marriages in the past, why not for same-sex marriages now?
It is by no means an embarassment to Canada that we are socially progressive, and that when we make a decision like the acceptance of same-sex marriages, we follow through with it completely, including the accpetance of similar wedding practices by same-sex couples as those practiced by opposite-sex couples.
