But, is it to little to late. Apparently some people in the states think that way and if so our gov'ts initial inaction in attempting to stop the spread was warranted. But is so why move the goalposts now.

$1:
Yet as the virus increasingly spreads through the United States by community transmission, it is not at all clear that travel restrictions can significantly impact the spread.

Stringent travel restrictions imposed on inbound flights from China to contain the coronavirus outbreak become irrelevant in a global pandemic, because you can't keep out the entire world, Dr. Anthony Fauci, director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, told CNBCs Squawk on the Street last month.

These measures are the right ones and should have been taken weeks ago. But, it's still bad optics for the Gov't to suddenly impose travel bans after the Prime Minister gets quarantined and his globe trotting wife gets infected. It gives the impression that they didn't care enough about rank and file Canadians health to do it before and waited till it directly affected them.

Since when has Team Groper ever given a shit about rank and file Canadians?

Trudeau and the political class didn't give a shit when it was just common people at threat. But now that it's hit home for them? Oh, no measure is too small!!

Same shit down here. The elites crapped their pants at each travel ban Trump imposed but now that it's hit Hollywood and the Democrats those same fucking bastards are accusing him of not doing it soon enough!!!

Given the number of people, probably numbering in the tens of thousands each day, that travel in and out of China by air a travel ban even at the beginning would have been pointless. That tactic to contain sickness is obsolete. The days of forcing a plague ship to anchor offshore and waiting for everyone aboard it to die are long over and never coming back.

Everyone should re-read the first section of The Stand to see how fast and easy the superflu spread via one infected person escaping from it's Ground Zero. It might be fiction but it's true in one respect - closing the barn door after the pale mare has run off is pointless. There is no such thing as "containment" in an inter-connected world and people better get used to it.

There’s no “travel ban.” They are just advising against. And they said soon will soon be requiring international flights to only fly to certain airports

No ban.

Travel bans slow the spread of a virus and they can stop the introduction of new mutations of the virus...that latter part being a concern for a potential second act for this bug come the fall.

llama66 @ Fri Mar 13, 2020 3:40 pm

Flatten the curve at this point.

BeaverFever @ Fri Mar 13, 2020 5:08 pm

Why did trump ban travel from EU counting but not UK or Ireland, where he has golf resorts? There are more cases in the uk than in Finland or Luxembourg

newz @ Fri Mar 13, 2020 8:34 pm

Late as usual libs, but of course that is your way. First we must think about feelings and shit.

herbie @ Fri Mar 13, 2020 8:47 pm

So now you same lot can blame Trudeau for the virus spread too even if he;s been doing things about it longer than the drooling lying moron down south.
o end to your ignorant incessant whining is there?

Even if he repeats what all the health professionals tell him rather than contradict and spew bullshit? And telling us for weeks!
Thanos and llama are right on, nobody's gonna stop the spread, just flatten the curve. That means spread it out so services aren't overloaded all at once.
