Quebecois resent the British for their defeat and annexation as a result of the battle of Plains of Abraham, September 13, 1759. (I looked it up; don't expect me to remember details like that date.) That was part of the French and Indian War, the North American extension of the Seven Years' War in Europe. That was back when Britain and France were monarchies; before the French revolution and before the collapse of the British Empire. Many Quebecois forget that the whole point of Confederation is that Canadian people stand together, we will defend our parent countries, Britain and France, but will never let a conflict between them divide Canadians every again.
Today French speaking people in Quebec still feel alienated from the rest of Canada, and pressured to assimilate into "Canadian" culture as they see it. Many don't realize how much America is pressuring English speaking Canada to assimilate into American culture. Many of the "English" cultural values they rail against aren't English Canadian at all, they're American.
The Quebec separatists try to raise ire for the battle in 1759, before Canada was a country. They forget why Canada was created, what Confederation is all about. Today many try to use any little difference to create an "us vs. them" attitude to support their candidacy. Much of the media pays-up any difference to sell newspapers, or air time. We have to rise above any such bait to smooth over differences, heal the rift between Quebec and the rest of Canada.
Many Albertans are also isolated, they don't have the multicultural environment of a place like Winnipeg. Like Quebec, they don't have experience with the vast size and vast cultural diversity of Canada and Canadians. But Nova Scotia has Acadia, another former French colony; Scrappy, why are you so anti-Quebecois?
Wow Winterpegger you are a bit of a pontificating brown noser know it all.
Care to clarify that I'm anti-Quebecois? Winnipeger, I love the province of Quebec. I spent my honeymoon their and I speak French? I am anti-seperatist, after spending twenty years as a FE in the Military I've seen how members from Quebec are given special status. One needs a french profile to get promoted to Senior officer but a Franco doesn't need an Englais profile to travel through the ranks. We've been kissing their asses for so long we forgot why our noses are brown.
Frankly I'm tired of a few cry babies threatening the Maritimes, if they chose to leave go if we are cut off from the rest of Canada so what. We can always become Americans, it's not like the rest of Canada care. If we aren't being made fun of we are being exploited to further Alberta's oil industry. In summary I don't care what Quebec wants, in the goberment or in civie street.
I hope that answers your question. Oh and multiculture to me means force them into racial enclaves and force them to live as substandard Canadians so the left can get a life time of votes. An immigrant to this country should be allowed to live where they choose not where they are forced to live and the last time I checked Winterpeg is a hotbed for racism and violence. Of course driving a native out of the town limits and leaving them to die isn't really racism it's a Multicultural thang.
Rather than ranting on Quebec, embrace them. We are one big happy country. Here in the west we had the attitude during the 1995 election "If they want to leave, then go already!" We didn't want them to leave, we're just tired of the threat. The CF-18 maintenance scandal was a big deal in Winnipeg. The only company in Canada that had employees with the necessary skill was Bristol Aerospace, here in Winnipeg. Winnipeg is the transportation centre of Canada, both for railroads and aircraft maintenance. But some politician used the threat of separation to get the contract awarded to a Quebec company. Bristol had to layoff those engineers. Canadair of Montreal could only perform the contract by hiring those engineers; so the same guys did the work anyway, but they had to move to Quebec. In 1995 we felt the referendum had to resolve the separation issue once and for all; never let politicians hold that over us again. CBC exit poles said 25% who voted for separation didn't want to separate; they just wanted to give the PQ ammunition to use the threat to continue to coerce goodies out of the federal government. That was so many the real vote for separation was only 37.2%, not 49.6%. Within a margin of error for the pole, that was exactly the same as the 40% of 1980, and that was with the continuing promise of Sovereignty Association. Ontario and Manitoba, and I think Saskatchewan and Alberta, said if they go then there won't be any Sovereignty Association; if they're out, they're all the way out. Quebec said they supply too much milk to Ontario for trade barriers, but they forget we have NAFTA with the US; Wisconsin has a lot of milk. Well, after 1995 Quebecers voters said they'll never let it get that close again. They were scared at what they almost did. The separatist issue is for the old generation; young people just want to get on with their lives.
So I want to let bygones be bygones. Time to be happy and let's all be one big happy family.
Try coming to Winnipeg some time during Folklorama. It just ended for this year, but it's a great celebration of culture. There were 45 pavilions this year, each for a different culture. There isn't an ethnic majority here; we have a mixed culture that comes from many of the cultures. Winnipeg is the only place you'll find a Wedding Social. That's a Ukrainian tradition, now integrated will all Winnipeg cultures.
The incident with an RCMP officer driving a native man out of town limits and leaving him to die happened in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; not Winnipeg. Don't confuse the big city of Winnipeg with little Saskatoon; different province, different town.

Get on board because it looks like Winnipegger saving up for another "love train" to Quebec, fresh with a new supply of maple leaf band aids.
Did anyone notice if Villineuve is still wearing his maple leaf or do we have to bribe him all over again?
What's not to like? Ever see a video from Quebec? I liked some of Mitsou's work. Here's one that shows a lot of skin. Near the end she's wearing nothing but a chair. For the ladies, there's also a guy dancing about, you get to see his bare backside. Pardon me for paying attention to Mitsou and the other naked ladies.

She's currently working for CBC: Mitsou Gélinas
She hosts a weekly program called Au Courant among others.
From November 10, 2005: 'Five Questions' with George Stroumboulopoulos
I met a few ladies from Montréal, and one local lady was an immigrant from France. She was my motivation to learn French. (Mmm, French babes )
Classic: Look over here because with only a bit of you're money we're solving the problem we developed.
Didn't Paul martin say he's fail if he didn't solve alianation?
