I have been watching this back and forth...it amuses me
But in fact the article does not state Li is schizophrenic...it was an assumption of a family he lived with...I will quote the excerpt:
$1:
A Winnipeg family that had extensive dealings with Li during his two years spent living in the city told the Free Press on Saturday they believe he was suffering from paranoid schizophrenia. However, he refused to go see a doctor to be diagnosed or prescribed any medication, despite a strong push from the family and members of a local church where he attended and briefly worked as a janitor.
No diagnosis from psychiatrists, just an assumption on the part of a family that knows him.
Thank you TG...

I gues YOUR assumptions are ignorant crap, Roman, and you Cherryl... bite me

I guess I can read after all...
$1:
JESUS CHRIST ALMIGHTY YOU ARE DENSE! YOU STILL HAVE NOT ANSWERED MY QUESTION(S).
REGARDLESS OF 'WHY' LI IS 'FOUND GUILTY', WHAT IS THE POINT IN KEEPING HIM ALIVE 'FOREVER'????
Hypothetical; Only a certain amount of $$$ are available. They can EITHER be used to house/treat Li OR they could be used to treat an illness which YOU or ONE OF YOUR LOVED ONES is afflicted with. WHAT WOULD BE YOUR CHOICE???
I'm sorry but your question is one of those ignorant would you rather hypothetical statements at best and should just remain unanswered...and i don't understand what point your trying to make with this considering I'm obviously going to place my family above a stranger, and it will always be that way for any situation aside from this one so i really don't see the point in your argument.
And if you actually read my first paragraph you would know how i stand on this situation.
If Li is MENTALLY DISABLED, i would say that punishing him for a crime that he was not in the mind to commit is unjust in the eyes of the law!
THIS ISN'T ABOUT HIM, THIS IS ABOUT THE PRECEDENT THAT YOU ARE SETTING! IF YOU CHOOSE TO NEGLECT TREATMENT TO SOMEONE WHO COMMITTED A HANEOUS CRIME BECAUSE HE WAS MENTALLY ILL, THEN YOU ARE NOT ONLY SAYING THAT HE IS A LOST CAUSE AND ISN'T WORTH THE MONEY SPENT ON TREATMENT BUT YOU ARE ALSO VALUING LIFE BASED ON GENETICS AND MENTAL HEALTH
which is against every one's rights.
This isn't an isolated incident i will say again and the way this case is handled will affect the way future cases will be tried. Setting a dangerous precedent like in the case of R. vs Latimer can be detrimental to society.
JUST GIVE THE GUY SOME DAMN TREATMENT IF IT COMES TO THAT

The 'point' is that 'in the light of day' you have shown yourself to be a hypoctite. Plain and simple. Your views and opinions are just so much postulating! You will change them as suits your personal needs at any given time. Your values DO have a $$$ value attached to them.
in the case of R. vs Latimer can be detrimental to society.
As far as the Latimer case goes, MY OPINION, based on what came out in the news and at his trial, Tracy was not terminally ill and did not ask her father to end her life. Thusly, Robert Latimer commited 1st degree murder and should have himself been executed!
I don't see how i have changed my personal opinion on anything? How are my opinions postulating? and yours are sound. I'm merely responding to your comments.
And i don't see how my opinions have a money sign attached to them since in fact you the one saying that there isn't enough money to help everyone so you need to pick who deserves it most. All I'm saying is that the guy should get treatment if he needs it.
how am i a hypocrite and how are my values compromised with money???

He showed strong signs of schizophrenia, and was being urged by the family he lived with and his church to seek help. He thought he was being followed and took off on inexplicable bus trips to locations where he didn't know anyone. Given this information, I guess we should just assume everything was fine, he wasn't having any paranoid hallucinations at all and say that he killed a guy for no reason, cause that REALLY makes sense!

I love armchair quaterbacks and NOW armchair psychiatrists
Where in my WHOLE post did i mention it made sense?...Oh thats right I didnt, I was merely quoting what the article said. Unlike yourself who seems fixated on the diagnoses of mere laymen, I will reserve my opinion of his mental health status until a full eval can be done. Thats how it works in the real world, we dont assume anyones mental health status.
And for those that dont comprehend so well...here is the quote again:

No mention of
Strong signs just a mention of a strong push.

If there are only so many $$ available, then for God's sake kill the stupid. The mentally ill don't have a choice, stupid people do.
We could promote an event like Pamplona, Spain. Maybe in Churchill. "Run of the Polar Bears", maybe we could cull a few. ![Drink up [B-o]](./images/smilies/drinkup.gif)
