Harper poised to make 8 Senate appointments

Any Liberal calling these appointments hypocritical is, in fact, hypocritical. The Liberal supporters remained quiet for 2+ decades while the Liberal Party stacked the senate with whomever they liked. Now tht it's not their party stacking the senate it's time to pout and call Harper a facist.
Fact is the "Senate" has been a sham for 2000+ years.
I am (was) a lifelong Conservative and I'm calling these appointments hypocritical. Not because they’re being made, but because they’re being made with the suggestions that “he has to do it” and that “they’re only here until the Senate changes”.Harper is doing what every other PM has done for the same reasons. To obtain more power. It would be nice if he had the guts to admit it and stop pretending it's going to be different because he's doing it.
Here's the thing. Except for the italics, I agree.
Harper is behind a rock and a hard place, just like he was before. If he leaves these seats open and the Libs get in, they will fill them with hacks that will be there untill they die. At least the CPC senators have a time limit and did agree to step down if changes were made.

Tell me RR, how is it you can spend so much time here slaying enemies of the empire? Do you not have a job?
You've been here 6 months and have 1571 posts. I've been here close to 4 years and have only 400 more. Do you have a job?
As for your question, I well aware of what needs to take place to reform the senate and personally, don't have the time to write out something you can investigate on your own.
I'm retired. I HAVE an excuse.
With respect to my question, I don't need to investigate anything. I'm concerned that you really don’t understand just how impossible the reform of our Senate really is.
Of course you may actually know and would rather just be obstinate for the sake of it. Just so you understand, wishing is not the same as doing, and LYING about it for the sake of politics is even worse.

The hilarity of you telling me I’m not Conservative just never gets old. I won’t bother to explain my position again since it would only be ignored .........again.

AND there you go with the “if changes were made” crap again. Don’t hold your breath.
It's just beyond you capability to admit failure in any way, isn't it?
Who was the last Conservative you voted for?
Arthur Meighen
(Conservative)?

At least it's 26 Senate seats that won't be filled by Liberal hacks who decide to live in Mexico and never show up for work while still cashing their Senate paycheques. Not to mention that none of the seats will be stuffed by the personal hairdresser to the Liberal leader's wife or by their kids gym coach.
Suck it up, Libbos. The only reason this makes you uncomfortable is that it means you won't be able to win in the Senate just by running up the score.
there are still 6 seats to fill. Why doesn't he fill them ? He would be 2 seats away from a majority in the senate.

So we now have 5 pages of back and forth with nothing solved, those on the Left are calling Harper a hack, and those on the right understand why he did it. But we all agree that changing the process of getting a new senator is next to impossible. We as citizens are the only ones who can bring about change but those on the left dont want change because they fear it will make us more like the Yanks and lord knows that cant ever happen!!! /sarcasm
