Richard Warman is the biggest manufacturer of hate in this country and he deserves to fail. Good for the government finally addressing this problem.

$1:
The Canadian Human Rights Tribunal has ruled that Section 13, Canada's much-criticized human rights hate speech law, is an unconstitutional violation of the Charter right to free expression because of its penalty provisions

Waited a long time for this. Time for the Justice Department lawyers to draft a bill rescinding Section 13. This echos the Moon report that the section should be removed.

The Human Rights tribunals just judged itself out of existence. *poof*

That being said, that bastard Wharman is also officially out of the litigious bastard business.

Finally a grain of common sense.

It's been a long time comming and now, perhaps we can get back to the important things without fear of the reactionaries using these laws to futher their own agenda's.

It's a good thing, but I think I'll reserve judgement till I actually see section 13 struck off the books.

So does that mean the CHRC can not longer fine us for offending people?

Now folks don't get your white sheets out quite yet, the terms and conditions of this site still prevent you from spreading hate here. ROTFL

Your right though, this new freedom to say whatever the hell I please is really really good!

Long live section 13!

har dee har har

Seriously, the tribunal's decision doesn't change anything in the CCRF. What does the government have to do, if anything?

Lemmy @ Wed Sep 02, 2009 6:59 pm

It has more to do with the Human Rights Codes than the Charter. But precedents of any sort change the way laws are interpreted and applied without changing the laws themselves.

Fantastic. Can I go back to denying the Holocaust now? :D
