I hate making excuses for England, but I will say this in their defence. You could clearly see that they had not played together much before. Passes weren't connecting. Players used to their league team mates being in particular positions, and certain plays and strategies would expect each other to be in places they weren't, or to pass to places they didn't. It looked to me like a bunch of players from different teams all cobbled together at the last minute - which they were.

Apparently England only had something like 9 games to play together, whereas some teams had up to 30. Of course, players of a supposedly high standard should be able to look up and do appropriate passing anyway - but I think it just reflects the way that club football has become so specialised and rehearsed (which does often make for beautiful play) that the players look lost when they don't all have the same script.

It's

Northern Africa Vs Italy

Only 6 french born players, thats not France.

That's why you don't have to feel ashamed cheering for them!

I hope Italy turns North Africa (france) inside out.

You most certainly have a point there. I noticed that myself. Christ on a stick! Are there no Frenchmen anymore? Shit!

FORZA ITALIA

Arctic_Menace @ Sat Jul 08, 2006 4:16 pm

Well, I have relatives in both countries, and have ancestral roots in Italy and France and most of central and Western Europe. But since I am slightly more French than Italian, I will cheer for France. Vive La France!!!

But if Italy wins, I'll be happy too.

MissT @ Sat Jul 08, 2006 4:17 pm

Woo Hoo! Vive La France!

Arctic_Menace @ Sat Jul 08, 2006 5:33 pm

I am also British you asshole. But since jolly old England is out, I'll have to settle for the next closest thing...God, you're dumb.

Arctic_Menace @ Sat Jul 08, 2006 5:35 pm

P.S. My favourite colour is black.

Nietzshe Nietzshe:
Bwaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhaaaaaaaahhhhhhhaaaaaaaaaa! Now that explains a few things! That Arctic_Menace guy is related to the French and Italians! Both are cowardly peoples! Yet I am related to the very people who kicked the collective asses of both peoples for centuries - the British! Bwaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhaaaaaaa! I would bet Arctic_Menace's favourite colour is white as signified by his ancestral penchant for raising the white flag in times of strife and war. Bwaaaaahhhhhhhaaaaaaaahhhhhhhaaaaaaaaa.

How will a game between two of the world's greatest cowards play out? Will they surrender to each other? Bwaaaahhhhhaaaaaaahaaaaaaaaaa!

Dare you to go down Commercial Drive in Vancouver and call the Italians there cowards. You'd get the Ralphie treatment.
