I recall one of the great posters on this site mocking me when I compared Canada to East Germany. He said something to the effect, "yeah, Canadian police are keeping Canadians clothing witht their scent in a jar". Maybe we aren't, but this is worse and far more dangerous to potential abuse of ones freedom.

I think of a scene in the movie the Talented Mr. Riply, where Jude Law looks at Matt Damon (in this case Canada)..."Creeeepy".

   

Well, I kinda like you and a couple other non-standard posters (that means you're not sheeple) who write about stuff that no one else pays any attention to.

Some times you folks hit it right on the mark and your detractors then run around pretending that they knew it all along.

No, we have two long threads showing that we are all paying attention to these issues.

What detracts us from his posts is his broken record mantra.

   

The violations of citizens Universal Human Rights that occur in Canada is staggering. Has been for some time as we allow plain clothed cops to operate in our schools, workplaces and in the intimate lives of citizens (not unlike what the creepy MET do in London, but at least they have books that have exposed it). Zero accountability and a trust in them by obedient Canadians that is frightening.

I know first hand how the police in Canada operate and I don't have a criminal record, nor allegations against me. Though plenty of career interference by the cowards. These activities are a violation of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights which we agreed to.

Now it seems media might be finally getting the message, "we aren't as respected as we try to present ourselves, so it MIGHT be time for some police/system reforms". With losses at the UN for the last 20 years and foreign governments kidnapping our citizens and pointing their fingers back at us about OUR less than stellar record on human rights, there is more than just an economic cost to a tarnished reputation.

You might say "our policing and human rights have nothing to do with our lost reputation and economic decimation". How else do nations lose their reputation other than when citizens inside tell their stories? Again, I hark back to the former East Germans or Soviet Union. Just because media didn't report what the Stasi and government officials were doing, didn't mean citizens weren't getting the message out.

The costs keep piling up and the wage gap between U.S citizens and Canadians grows wider (currently Americans make $14k more PPP per capita than Canadians). Along with 50% more corporate debt levels in Canada, and the situation is going to get much more murky for us in rapid fashion.

At the end of the day, all a nation ever has is it's reputation and credibility. It's soul is based on it's character in regards to the treatment of its citizens.

We are a fossil in a rapidly changing global economy. As long as we allow low performers to lie, exploit and destroy other citizens for their 6 figure careers, it will continue.

There is a reason our allies don't trust us...
