Well, at least he went out on a high. Couldn't ask for more really, in the grand scheme of things. I knew things were bad in the picture they showed in the papers. You could see the spectre of cancer in his gaunt face. he achieved amazing things including, of the first time in history, bringing the NDP to the status of official Opposition. Plus he won the respect of others across the political spectrum. Except for the rabid right of course, who called him Taliban Jack because he suggested talking with the Taliban. Which is exactly why the US is doing now.
He stood up for the poor and disadvantaged at a time when it was very unpopular to do so. He was a good man. RIP, sir, RIP.
RIP Jack. You will be missed by all Canadians.
As already expressed, I was expecting him to pass soon, just not this soon. He brought sweeping changes to the canadian political landscape and his passing will bring even more.
Never a fan of his but you could see it in his face during his last public appearance that his time was coming to an end. My condolences to his family and friends.
I didn't like him, I didn't like his party.
But, that man was a fighter. He is a loss to Canada.
RIP Mr. Layton.

RIP Jack Layton.
This shocked me, woke up and heard this. Sad day for all Canadians
Nobody can deny he was a good leader. He made history as leader of the NDP, something nobody else has done by leading them as the opposition for the first time.
A great Canadian, and a great loss.
You can find his letter to Canadians on CBC I read it already.
My condolences to his family and all of Canada. A loss to all of us.
RIP Mr. Layton.
I admired his passion and his beliefs, even if I didn't always agree with them. Your loss will be felt for years to come. We can only wonder how politics in Canada might have been had you lived to fight the next election.
Terrible news.
RiP
I'd never vote NDP, but we are all better having had Layton in Ottawa. He was a Leader of great integrity and character, always focused on issues that mattered to us all in our daily lives.
RIP, you will be missed.
One hell of a fighter, leader, and role model for many. A sad day for Canada. Condolences to his family.
Rest in Peace Jack Layton.
Not a big shock to me, but a little surprising at the speed of it. RIP Mr. Layton. Canada is diminished.
