If her children are simply playing outside in her own fenced-in backyard I don't see why anyone would have an issue with it.

Ten bucks says this is all caused by some asshole neighbour who ratted on them because they were pissed off at the noise the kids were making.

Really? This country is filled with morons who forgot that HEALTHY kids play and make noise. Any official who let this happen should be forceably removed from office.

Yes, I suppose I should give my head a shake and remember that nowadays it's best that children be cemented in front of a TV or computer for entertainment so that they can become part of the childhood obesity stats. Status quo and all ya know.

It's a shame that some have forgotten how kids should be allowed to be kids isn't it?

The headline makes a lot more sense in the op than what was posted here. Ridiculous situation.

So glad I'm not a kid these days.

The worst part of this is that it happens all the time.

There doesn't have to be a shred of truth to any complaint to CAS and they may come investigate.

You could literally make up anything about your neighbour. CAS won't even tell you who made the complaint.

Sitting at the kitchen table listening to the kids playing in the back is often the best part of my day. Hell, even just hearing the neighbour kids out being healthy kids is great. Just don't understand this stuff...

My sister is a social worker, gonna have to ask if this kind of thing happens here.

Around here there is always the sounds of kids playing outside. They are supposed to be outside, fresh air and sunshine are good for them. So they are loud they usually go to bed at a reasonable time.

Every time I read a story like this I'm glad mine are grown. I use to boot mine outside in winter at -40 sometimes colder morning and afternoon for a few minutes to burn off the energy.

Been there...

I got a call out of the blue from CAS about my then 13 year old girl. She had a bruise and someone called it in as me having her pushed off the stairs...
I was SHOCKED.
Later, I found out it was one of her classmates that had called it in after I refused her request for a sleepover.

Maybe not the exact same situation, but sure, she's going to wind up investigating false claims. And she has to investigate, can you imagine the foaming if she didn't the claims turned out to be true.

We don't now what all was alleged in this case, but if he caller really just said the kids are in the yard unsupervised, it should have been a very short investigation by the social worker.

i kind of wonder that too. If all that was in the complaint was that they were out in the yard, the complainant should've just been told over the phone to mind their own Damn business. The fact that a, no doubt very busy, social worker took time to make a personal visit kind of suggests there may be more to the story.

Things seem to have calmed down here a bit (except for FN cases) but as far back as I can remembers, one year the media would be baying about the heavy handed, jackbooted social workers ripping children from the bosom of their loving family, while next year it was do nothing, uncaring social workers leaving poor children with their monster families.

Child protection work is incredibly difficult. You're always wrong in one direction or the other, management will throw you under the bus to CYA, and the system is chronically underfunded to be able to to the job it needs to do. Tons of time spent doing paper work instead of looking after families. Plus the mindset of many social workers is if you just tell parents not to hit little Johnny, they will clue right in. There's often little understanding of the amount of damage the parents themselves have suffered when they were young, and they are expected to just straighten up and fly right with only little help. Many of these parents should never have been allowed to breed, they are just incapable of doing a good job, and if their children are removed they just have more. And the children sometimes are abused in foster care far worse than they were with their birth family. You really get to see how much damage there is in society. And of course in reserves it's the same, only on steroids.
