For the children of the Bhutanese, life is less complicated. They're picking up the English language quickly because they're surrounded by English speakers all day at school.
"I learned a lot from my friends," said Bal, "and a little bit of French." The Grade 5 student attends Marion School.

One rumour they heard through the refugee grapevine that turned out to be true was that Canada is a more welcoming place for newcomers than many countries.
"People are extremely helpful," said Purna. "They don't talk bad about people."
The Biswa family was befriended by Jeanie Dalman, who met them at a gathering at Knox United Church not long after they arrived.

His wife is thrilled with the children's school here. The refugee camp's classrooms were overcrowded with few resources and poorly paid teachers, said Purna.
"Here the kids want to go to school," even when they're sick, she said.
"It's 1,000 times better. There's no comparison."

These are the kind of immigrants I actually like: The ones that WANT to be here, and enjoy being here, and know what being Canadian means.
We need more of them, and less of the ungrateful, speak our own language, don't fly a Maple Leaf, fuck the system types that we always seem to get first.

These would actually be Nepalese immigrants to Bhutan that got kicked out. Bhutan is a country very concerned about the wellbeing of it's people. Unfortunately they do this by having no immigration and harassing or pushing out outsiders. But maybe that's the only way to do it. I don't understand why these people couldn't just go back to Nepal? Do the Nepalese not take them back? If it's a matter of money to help the settle in Nepal, maybe we'd be better off providing that.

It's an indicator of just how poor Nepal is that these people would rather spend years in camps & then end up on the subarctic plains of Canada than go back.
Just giving Nepal money to take them back wouldn't work because the communist Nepali govt would swallow the money and the people would be left to fend for themselves-Nepal is a sinkhole of foreign aid.
